A word of thanks & 1 more (minor) ?

Hello, Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me get WinMX up and running again, and I had 1 minor question to ask,

I was looking for the Melissa Etheridge song (I need to wake up) from the Inconvenient Truth movie... I typed it in like I was told....

-c: Melissa etheridge I need to wake up


but only one red listing with about 98 people in the cue came up.... so by accident I just hit 'search for similar' and it started looking for it without the -c:
Melissa etheridge I need to wake up
at the beginning.... and low and behold TONS of them started streaming down..... about 350 listings.
So I tried a couple of them... but they ALL just go through the "waiting for network reply" stage and then time out.
Even though it is a fairly well known song it seems odd that there would be so many of them... but none of them would work..

Are these fakes?
Everything else seems to work ok though.... again, thanks

Enter on the 1st line of search :
-c: Melissa etheridge I need to wake up

(AND u missed out this line)

Enter on the 2nd line of search :
-user

then click Audio and Search.

u need the 2nd line of -user which further refines the search.

I tried searching yr song just now ... didn't even get one search result. It is indeed a rare song. When u get it, pls share it.

To avoid fakes in yr searches, simply search like this :

-c: artistename songname
-user

Simply input the 1st line -c: artistename songname into the top line of Search and input -user into the 2nd line of Search and click Audio and click Search.

An eg of searching a song called My Immortal by the artiste Evanescence would be searched this way :

-c: Evanescence My Immortal
-user

<<< when u search that way all yr searches will download.

(don't forget to select video b4 clicking on Search)

Actually the -c: and -user cut out any results from all c: drives and all folders with user in the filepath .. not just fakes

And it is the simplest method to do so and works for at least 90% of winmx users who find not so rare stuff

Tell them yr method, CJ and see if they will bother using yrs

Yes, I 'spose you would find it complicated. My method is simply use your head! A little common sense goes a long way towards mentally filtering results.

I didn't say it is complicated to me... I said it is *complicated to the uninitiated* like 90% of winmx users who just want to download a song in a few minutes.

To have a semi-analysis of EVERY search is really too tedious for any winmx user who r not really into spending 10mins to analyze how riaa floods for every search. Ppl just want to download a track, not spend 10mins thinking how riaa floods that particular search and then finetune EVERY search.

For those who want to know CJ's method here it is :

Usually when I see the fakes coming in I'll hit the stop button .. show full path, and find a common factor .. then put that factor in the bottom slot with a - in front .. restart the search and at least have a few less to sort out. I had a look at Bo Bice - The real thing.mp3 and there doesn't seem to be a common factor!! I would just let the search run til I had enough real choices then stop the flood and try a few of the "Probably not fakes".

It ain't rocket science.. btw I've been sharing Melissa Etheridge - Greatest Hits The Road Less Traveled - 18 - I Need To Wake Up.mp3 since just a few minutes after you said it was rare but as with any temporary share it's on my C: Drive so using your method you or Winonasalibi will never see it ..

Sure, my method is only bad for rare files... but ask any winmx user... would they prefer to use yr method or mine?

My method involves no analysis and is simple to do and works for 90% of the files and winmx users can find what they want up to 90% of the time. Only in rare cases involving very rare files... they may not get any search results.

Yr method involves analysis of every search, something not all winmx users may like to indulge in. If u can do it for anyone searching for a rare file for them all the time that would be a service indeed

Actually, the flooders wised up to this work around a long long time ago, so no this is not a flawless way to remove fakes, you will catch some fakes, along with some real results, for example, some my files are shared on C: as would be many other users.

There are only 2 work arounds for fake files:

1. Use KMware - this does work very well, but i wouldnt recommend installing anything by KM on your PC

2. Use the common sense approach to work out the real files (CJ's way and what i do on the odd occasion i find fakes)


OFC the best way to removed fakeswould be to get users off the pie.info patch an onto a blocking solution, then there would be nothing for the Riaa to connnect too and flood.
