u/l d/l wont work

I have found recently my u/l and d/l start but then timeout within 5 mins of starting. I would suspect my isp except that torrents still work at the same level they always have. I never try to run torrents and d/l at the same time btw. I didnt change any settings but did put in a router but it worked ok with the router for the first 3 weeks and cant find any setting changes I could put the problem down to. I have been having drop out problems with my server but its all dependant on weather conditions so its all too weird for simple me.
Anyone any clues
