wmv files can not be played

I have downloaded wmv files with netscape 4.x and I can not play them with Windows media Player 9. My repair progrm writes (se below) but can not repair them, any suggestions?

Note: This file appears to be "cooked" - a type of corruption which can occur when a downloaded file is mistaken for text. If the file is not playable, consider obtaining a public domain utility such as "uncook95.exe" - such a utility can often restore the file 100%.

Sorry, I never came across that one, hopefully someone else will read it and be able to provide more solutions, but it looks like that it has to do with the fact that you used Netscape to download. During a Google search I came across some info like the following:

"Uncook 95 is a 32-bit Windows 95/NT application that will allow Netscape users to fix MP3 files that were retrieved from improperly set servers."

What causes "cooking"?
"Cooking" occurs because the server that you are retrieving data from is not properly configured to be aware that a particular binary file type is indeed binary. Most servers default to a text mode when type is unknown.

I found this information while searching for uncook95.exe, so it looks as if that would be your best bet.
