Hi all. The patch enabled me to connect and search, but all download attempts fail after "waiting for incoming TCP connection".

Is this a clear case of port-blocking?

Yes. The fun part is determining where it's blocked- your software firewall, your router or even possibly your ISP may be blocking that port.
I'd recommend trying TCP port 16699 or 65001. Because you asked the correcft question I'm assuming you know how to implement the changes. If you don't know, don't feel bad- just drop a line here and I'll gladly help out where I can!

since the "restart" of WinMX, I cannot find any files when using the "search" engine.

Other people queue up at me, but I cannot find something. The only way to trade ist to hope that people queue up with files I search for.

Step 1: Check if this file is in yr winmx folder ... ws2_32.dll ... if it is there ... pls delete it. (u may need to close winmx to do this)

Pls remove the ws2_32.dll ONLY from yr WinMX folder (yr WinMx folder is the one containing yr winmx.exe which u r running WinMX from) and do not delete it from anywhere else.

Step 2 : Pls install pie patch 2.6 from here : FIX

Step 3 : Pls restart yr winmx

Step 4 : To set yr winmx settings :
Set winmx settings to no proxy used, TCP=16699 and UDP=16257

A) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of winmx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart winmx

B) If u have a router ... pls map yr router to the same ports : TCP = 16699, UDP =16257
(Router configuration guide : http://www.portforward.com)

C) : Disable XP Firewall (if u r using xp) and if u have yr own firewall : to allow WinMX (If u do not have any firewall pls get Sygate firewall free here : http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm and set Sygate to allow WinMX

To Disable XP Firewall :
Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall … hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

U shd be connected after that, any probs, let us know

If all else fails … log onto winmx and heck care whether can connect or not just hit chat... ok ... enter Vladd44 Help Channel_4DA749441A22 in the black space at Filter and hit Join ... u will enter V44 room and there, ppl can help u get connected.

I won't even get started on the fact that you yourself are just as bad, repeatedly posting the exact same incorrect advise to every single thread without even having a quick glance at what the poster is saying...

Watch it, two posts I made in the past that were critical of this process mysteriously disappeared.
I'm not pointing fingers just yet due to a lack of solid proof- but making an observation.

You see, I'm "wrong" when I point out that the ws2_32.dll found in the person's winmx directory may not be the patch. I'm also "wrong" when I point out that the patch may also be called ws2_32o.dll or ws2_32r.dll. I was also "wrong" when I pointed out that a file by that name isn't necessarily the patch. I was also "wrong" a few weks back when I asked how searching overloads the peer caches that aren't involved in that process


To the person who has WinMX 3.31 reporting them as having a slow CPU- if you have a CPU that did not exist when 3.31 came out, 3.31 won't recognize it. Failure to properly recognize the CPU could cause your problem. I'd recomment upgrading WinMX to a newer version such as 3.53

Need to configure yr ports, router and firewall :

A) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of winmx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart winmx

I deleted the old version in September thinking it was a software error only
to learn later that the service was down. My ws2_32.dll file is now in 2 locattions; WINNT \System32 and WINNT\serivcepackfiles\i386. Should this file be somewhere elese. Any recommendations? I miss my WinMX!!

ignore the post above, it is just some spammer posting the same bullshit in every single thread telling people to delete the patch and stop connecting to winmx

she of course will deny being a spammer if asked, but you only need to look at how many times the exact same spam has been posted (twice on this page alone!) to see that she IS a spammer

she also claims that it helps for people to delete the patch, use some common sense in figuring that out for yourself...

the first thing to try is to get the patch from www.winnxgroup.com - this is in the form of an installer that will also install winmx if you don't have it and patch it (place the extremely important file named ws2_32.dll in the winmx directory) - this patch works with nearly every user (over 99% of users can use this without the slightest problem) however if this fails then you can try one of the various hosts files such as the "pie" text file referred to above, the use of the hosts file to connect to the new caches is a temporary solution that was released for the first few days before a patch was made and should only really be used as a last resort

U can see all my posts here in V44 forum r followed by posts of ppl connecting and thanking us for the pie patch solution that it works. The users that come into Vladd44 Help Channel_4DA749441A22 also prove that everyone gets connected on pie patch without disconnection or any other problems. I don't need to say a word to defend that this solution indeed works.

you merely need to count the number of posts saying they tried the pie patch and had problems, nearly all of these are followed by your spam to try it again then them saying it wont work, then a suggestion to try the winmx patch that actually works then "oh that worked, thanks" - followed by you telling them to delete the patch they just said worked and instead install the one they just said wouldn't work after several tried...

you have repeatedly posted telling people who have winmx connected that they need to delete a working patch and needlessly play with settings to f**k with their entire system in the hope of breaking it

and as for the lies you make up about disconnecting, do you have any idea at all about even the basics of how winmx works? from your posts you act as if you are an expert and whatever you say is the answer even if it is unrelated to the thread and is contrary to what the posted just said fixed it
