WinMX.com Fix PIE Patch 2.6 - Update

Hello, I have no computer savvy at all!!! I tried to repair my WinMx with the patch. However, I am having no luck at all. I clicked on the automatic install link, hit the next buttons and Winmx still does not work.
Can you tell me what am I still doing wrong??? Thanks much!
I can't wait to have Winmx up and running again!

Step 1: Check if this file is in yr winmx folder ... ws2_32.dll ... if it is there ... pls delete it. (u may need to close winmx to do this)

Pls remove the ws2_32.dll ONLY from yr WinMX folder (yr WinMx folder is the one containing yr winmx.exe which u r running WinMX from) and do not delete it from anywhere else.

Step 2 : Pls install pie patch 2.6 from here : FIX

Click Pie Automatic Installation

Step 3 : Pls restart yr winmx

Step 4 : To set yr winmx settings :
Set winmx settings to no proxy used, TCP=16699 and UDP=16257

A) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of winmx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart winmx

B) If u have a router ... pls map yr router to the same ports : TCP = 16699, UDP =16257

C) : Disable XP Firewall (if u r using xp) and if u have yr own firewall : to allow WinMX (If u do not have any firewall pls get Sygate firewall free here : http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm and set Sygate to allow WinMX

To Disable XP Firewall :
Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall … hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

U shd be connected after that, any probs, let us know

If all else fails … log onto winmx and heck care whether can connect or not just hit chat... ok ... enter Vladd44 Help Channel_4DA749441A22 in the black space at Filter and hit Join ... u will enter V44 room and there, ppl can help u get connected.

I am in V44 room as Kayleigh and inter-room PR (will help when I am in, if I am not there ... there r many others who r also there to help u get connected

Thanks for the advise...I did the things you suggested. I can search just fine. When I queue up a song, it says "waiting for network reply" then "connected, negotiating", the quickly goes to "disconnected". I am using WINMX 3.54 beta, does that matter?

I had to reinstall a hard drive after crash and 3.53 software, can not connect, no dl in WinMx folder, dl'd the patch etc etc...

any ideas?

It will not co-exist with the PIE patch. You should use one patch or the other, not both. Having both on the same computer can lead to system instability in the way of WinMX crashing.

Thanks to you guys who got winmx up and running again. Have noticed a lot better d/l speeds probably coz u got rid of a lot of the fakes. thanks again. BRILLIANT!!!

It is called KM's patch ... and this file ws2_32.dll shd be deleted ONLY from yr winmx folder nowhere else. Yr winmx folder is the one u downloaded winmx.exe into and is running winmx from.

It is causing u to disconnect. Hundreds of ppl have disconnect problems due to having it... when u remove it and install the latest version of pie patch 2.6 at http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php

those same ppl connect immediately.

It is causing ppl to have S=0, upload problems and disconnection.

Those ppl on pie patch have never disconnected, not once.

Can you back this up with facts? I find it hard to believe that a DLL can burn out a router. The DLL may have caused too many people to connect to one server and overloaded the system, however if the router burnt out that was a design flaw in the router itself.

I have been helping ppl in V44 for the last 3 weeks to connect using the process I have pasted here many times. To date, it has not failed. Everyone who has followed it in V44 room connect immediately.

Stay in V44 room and see the masses of ppl who had KM's patch and had disconnect problems. There r hundreds the last 3 weeks. Yet not a single person using Sabre's pie patch ever had disconnect probs. As for the overloading issue and a router burnt out thru KM's patch overloading the servers... this is a fact confirmed by Sabre himself. I don't need to defend the fact cos u can see what I say is true from the hundreds of users who r disconnected thru KM's patch and are connected instantly after removing it and installing with pie patch. All my posts here in V44 forum have been marked by ppl who connect immediately after following my instructions so again my process works. They all have been to V44 to thank us for giving them the right solution.

We cannot recommend to u a patch like KM's dll one which we know for a fact from those hundreds of users that it does cause ppl to disconnect, give u S=0 and upload probs and puts our servers at risk.

It is yr choice to pick which patch u want. But we r here to help ppl connect. And we stick to our process which has been tested 3 weeks wthout a single case of disconnect, cos it works.

I just installed the patch and winmx works perfectly. Thank you Mr. Vladd very very happy. We hope that everyone will download the patch and make winmx to be stronger then ever with a lot of users to share files.

I have done everything listed above, including downloading the latest patch, and substituting the "Host" file under the system 32 folder, but when I try to select "Connect with primary Connection" the computer says it cannot connect because my CPU speed is below 266mhz, but I have never had that problem before. I am using Version 3.1 Please Help!!!

I'm arguing what you inistially stated-

If you look at how the WPN works, disconnections will occur. It happened when Frontcode ran the peer cahce servers, and it will continue to happen.

A DLL or hosts file cannot burn out a router. Neither of them interacts directly to the router. The problem here was the internet connection being able to send data faster than the router could handle, a design flaw in the router itself, or something as simple as dust buildup on the router's components preventing it from dissipating sufficient heat.
That's like blaming the gasoline companies for the transmission wearing out in your car. If they hadn't sold you that gasoline, you wouldn't be able to run the car long enough to wear out that transmission.

to confirm if inbound TCP connections are working when on primary refresh the channel list and within a few minutes some secondary users should connect - of course without the patch you will get secondary connections a bit faster because the flooders will connect pretty much straight away and without my patch you are not blocking them but instead allowing them to connect

KM I have been camping in V44 some 18 hrs on weekends and at least 12 hrs a weekday the last 3 weeks and I have not seen a single person banned for not being able to connect ... in fact we post V44 room name everywhere with my name Kayleigh to tell them to go there to get connected. We clear bans all the time to let ppl get in (Ouka glitch) ... if ppl r being f**k and r banned I guess they deserve it .... but we do not ban anyone who goes there for help ... we r there to help them connect.

We also recommend very frequently for ppl to get Peer Guardian2 or Sherwood. So yes we recommend ppl to block fake flooders. It is our policy to do so.

I won't go into details of the hundreds who connected and could have successful transfers after removing yr patch from the winmx folder (which u can see not only in V44 room but here in the V44 forum after every post I make) but I will list the latest one that Sabre can confirm that removal of yr patch indeed helped cutygirl to have successful uploading and downloading :

WinMX 3.31 & 3.53 are designed to do this if your PC is below this spec.. because running a primary with such a processor would load it too much...

It CAN be overridden in settings, but i wouldn't recommend it unless you plan to use the PC for little or nothing else.

(On the WinMX Peer Network bit... a checkbox at the bottom "Allow primary connection with Processor below 266.....")

this assumes your PC really is below this spec.. if it's faster.. then something odd is happening which i suspect to be a Windows problem, rather than one with WinMX

very good advice.. if the person to whom it was given was using version 3.53 or later... but it was given to a 3.31 user..

3.31 can ONLY enter a room from roomlist & therefore MUST connect first...

i know 3.31 is the exception now & you've been very busy, but please try to remember.. there's little worse than being given advice to do the impossible

i am not preventing people from using peer caches, unlike him i think everyone should be able to connect to the network through any peer cache, not just connect to those peer caches.

and as for what sabre says, here are just a few of the things he has said:

i am an idiot and don't have a clue about winmx or about programming, and he knows much more than me - he however knows nothing at all about even basic things in winmx that the average user knows and has no knowledge at all of programming (these are facts that he has also admitted, in different conversations of course)

the maximum channel name winmx allows is 35 characters, i told him to test this incorrect information by opening a channel with 40 chars in the name and he stated that he doesn't need to test it because he knows for a fact that the limit is 35... anybody can test this for themselves to see how accurate this information is

he claims to have written BSD almost single handed, ignoring that it was written by a team of programmers and also ignoring his own confessions that he is not a programmer and doesn't know basic programming

he also claims that somehow simply having users send data to a system magically burnt out a router, anybody who knows even the basics knows that not only is this not possible but it is also the sort of thing that many... best way to phrase it is "1337 h4x0rz" say

he even goes as far as claiming he is the owner of a large ISP, yet knows very little about basic networking and doesn't have the resources to host a single peer cache... in fact claiming that he is an ISP and hosting the 205.238.40.1 cache, which is hosted by someone else (who to be perfectly honest I have never heard of but it seems others have) - this is of course the server that is struggling to handle a small percentage of the traffic to the peer caches, but that is a different subject.... lol

he also claims many other things, and is constantly contradicting himself with many things he says... i can't be bothered to get logs of every conversation with him (i don't normally keep logs, however someone has no doubt logged all of these conversations) but if you wish to dispute that he has said any of those things then i'm sure i can find someone who logged it

Does anyone have any idea whats happening to Ares? I am running Win ME, and I have not been able to get a single p2p program to work for me, and personally its starting to piss me off, and the patch up there did not work for me, not that I really care because I found WINMX to be worthless for my uses anyways....

Watch it, two posts I made in the past that were critical of this process mysteriously disappeared.
I'm not pointing fingers just yet due to a lack of solid proof- but making an observation.

You see, I'm "wrong" when I point out that the ws2_32.dll found in the person's winmx directory may not be the patch. I'm also "wrong" when I point out that the patch may also be called ws2_32o.dll or ws2_32r.dll. I was also "wrong" when I pointed out that a file by that name isn't necessarily the patch. I was also "wrong" a few weks back when I asked how searching overloads the peer caches that aren't involved in that process


To the person who has WinMX 3.31 reporting them as having a slow CPU- if you have a CPU that did not exist when 3.31 came out, 3.31 won't recognize it. Failure to properly recognize the CPU could cause your problem. I'd recomment upgrading WinMX to a newer version such as 3.53
