'Whois' does not work

Postby Tone on Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:41 pm

Hi all. When I select 'Whois' I get the button but no response on the screen. MX Moni Whois works fine. I have reloaded 3.53 but still have the problem. Any suggestions please.

This occasionally happens with MxMon, & happens more often With LeechHammer (or did when I used an older version), in that Whois works, but the window never appears. Right clicking in the title bar at the top of the program window & clicking "reset all windows" usually cures it at least temporarily.

I havn't seen this without these utilities/add-ons, but it seems likely that the same cure would apply.

VERY STRANGE! I did an uninstall with the uninstaller, went through the registry & deleted all references to WinMX I could find (even searched for my OLD screen name), made sure the directory was deleted, went through all hidden and system files under user names, searched the applications folders & settings, deleted all temp folders and files, etc., etc., etc. Then I did a clean install with the community patch and put in a NEW screen name, new library, new color scheme, etc., etc., etc,. :bang2
When i closed WinMX and started it again, all of the old stuff (screen name, settings, library, etc.) was back and the WhoIS didn't work again!!! DAMN! Where was all of this old stuff hidden? WHY did it replace the new stuff!!! I even copied the files in the WinMX directory after the new install - before AND after closing it and compared files. I am baffled as to where the screen name is stored. Must be in some C:\Windows folder or something. Maybe a DLL in WIndows folder?? :bang2

Oh WELL! -at least right clicking and "reset all windows" has WhoIS working again. Re-installing had it working again too, until I closed and restarted WinMX.
