Who's keeping Winmx running?

I'm just curious. 5K max file limit and only 512 ignore list? I imagine it could use a upgrade for those of us that moved past 56k connections and can handle it.

There are a number of users working on developing a new client with various upgrades. You must remember when Kevin Hearne departed WinMx he took the source code with him, development of course ceased and the fight just to get the network up and running again took over.

I actually didn't know anything about that. Why wouldn't he leave the source code? If he knew the program was shut down anyways?

Very cool that there will be a new client for it. Does the project have a name yet?

Well, Kevin Hearne, who was the man behind Frontcode, aka Mr Winmx, was put under pressure by the Riaa to shut down WinMx cache servers, he did so. What deal was struck over the source, nobody knows, perhaps he hung onto it, perhaps he destroyed it, perhaps the Riaa took the rights to it in the deal, the are any number of things that could be the case.

One this is for sure, Frontcode ceased, and the main domain Winmx.com was (from memory) moved to a company called Winmx technologies, based on a small Island somewhere. The very fact that WinMx has survived is impressive enough, but right now we are fighting back, the latest community patch is actively blocking the Riaa scum from our network and hope is high for a new client. Whilst i have not heard a name for it, i have had a go on a very early beta, not really anything to report at this stage, needless to say, its slow going. Those that are working hard on it though should be commended for their efforts.

You couldnt be further from the truth, the community patch was launched a few months back, WMW, MXPie and ofc V44 all backing it, well, all except the few left in the other pie team. Thats right you heard right, we are all using the same patch, thanks again to Eagle! You had better go upgrade Michael, would want to think of you stuck on an old Km patch,or even worse, one of yours, lmao.

lol, on this forum you wouldn't be top of the hit list, i think Mando has that title at the moment, but in fairness everyone on this forum gives each other stick.

My life for someone to increase ignore list past 512?

Almost all the people I deal with remain on ignore list after they log off and back on. I was told that wouldn't happen because they get a new 5 digit number or something like that. No matter what that number is it still keeps them on ignore.

Thats weired, maybe you have a corrupted winmx ? or are you using mxmonitor ?

them you should take a look in your settings. mxmoni is ignoring people without files for example....

I know. I'm not giving anything to people with no files. There is over 512 people with 0 files on there too.
I try to keep tabs on those people to make sure they're not just renaming themselves but I spent over $3,000 on my pc..I think I can handle more than 512 in my ignore list. Heard it's been 2 years they've been working on a winmx 4.0?

There won´t be a new winmx version because Frontcode stopped working on it. and you can´t put more than 512 people in your ignore list.

I did read your post. Doesn't say specific time. Eh, idc about a new version really. So many better programs like gigatribe and such out there now. It's cool for nostalgia purposes and the Japs seem to love it.
