Where's the manual installation patch?

Postby lilblu on Tue Jan 22, 2008 1:02 am

It's been over year since I last used WinMX and I want to make sure I'm all up-to-date. Firstly, I'd rather not use the PIE Auto Updater. Is there a manual installation patch that I can use? All I see is the one for version 3.2 which is from 2006. Is that OK to use for a secondary connection?

Well, u can use the mxpie patch but read this 1st ... don't wonder if u time out horribly using mxpie patch. Sabre's antics has sabotaged users of the mxpie patch... due to him, u r basically firewalling half the users on winmx : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10366

Ppl who used mxpie patch switched to Vladd's patch Pie Auto Updater and realized they don't time out anymore :D

btw this is how u manually patch with Pie Auto Updater :

http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php

To manually install the Pie auto updating patch:

1. Click on: PIE Manual Install

2. Download the file and unzip it directly into: Local Disk C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc folder (if using xp) Or C:\WINDOWS (if not using xp) this will replace yr Host file.

3. Click here Download Pie Auto Updater Installer and either save the file to your desktop, or select run to install right away.

4. Follow the Pie Auto Updater installation instructions on your screen.

5. Click Winmx download and install a fresh copy of Winmx 3.53 or 3.54.

6. Run through the normal winmx setup process

7. Right click on: Pie Auto Updater icon (in your system tray bottom right of screen) then click on 'Manual Update Now'

8. Restart Winmx and you're done.

For those who r using mxpie patch this is how u switch to Pie Auto Updater : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=9120

If you have any problems, just go to Vladd44 Help Room for help here : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6514

Wow, this just keeps getting more confusing. :?

So what does the pie auto updater do? Isn't the HOST file I'm using the same thing? Or is the peer cache different?

I'm sorry if I'm a pain, but I'm the kind of person that likes to know what I'm putting on my computer and how things work. I don't just go around installing things all willy-nilly.

np, all explained here : http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php

The mxpie patch (an inferior patch that the rogue copycat site which we mentioned in this link : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10366 ) has a major shortfall over our patch Pie Auto Updater. U see Vladd knew of the problems mxpie patch had ... that's why Vladd made the Pie Auto Updater. mxpie patch uses PG2 which is not only resource-intensive and slows yr comp down, u can also see the harm Sabre is doing to users of it from this page : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10366

So mxpie users r in deep shit. Use PG2 and have a slow comp and be firewalled from everyone else tks to Sabre once again :P or use no protection and let RIAA raid winmx with fake files?

Nah, the solution is even better and simpler than that... use Vladd's Pie Auto Updater which comes automatically with PGLite which uses very little cpu resources (u hardly notice it running even). Yet it gives u protection from riaa flooders. Some more, u don't have to mess with anything it comes auto configured and works fine by itself without needing u to do anything that's why we call it the Pie Auto Updater.

How to use Pie Auto Updater : http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php

If you want to manual install, go to http://blocktards.com/updates/hosts

copy the output and paste it into your hosts file. That is the hosts file as it would currently be if you were using the auto patch.
