VOB Files and DVDs

Postby mjolnir13 on Mon Dec 13, 2004 7:37 pm

Hi Everyone. It's been awhile. I have a question regarding buring DVDs.

I recently downloaded something that was DVD ready. WHen I looked in the folder, there were three types of files: BUP, IFO, and VOB files. Now, I know that files need to be in VOB format in order to burn to DVD..

So, my question is this: what are the other two formats? Can I just use the VOB files to burn the DVD?

Thanks much.

Thx Joe...lol

If you are using Nero, for instance, when you select DVD Video you get an AUDIO-TS folder and a VIDEO-TS folder, you should move all the files you mentioned into the video folder...

You can see the explanation in the following link:
http://www.rita.lt/video_tools/help/burndvdnero.htm

The other files, besides the vobs, are indexing files tell your dvd where to make chapters and other information for your dvd player to understand, such as framerate, etc... They are necessary, just as is a cue file to a bin file.

Thanks Wolf!!! Long time?????

By the way -- I was told I had to use ISO Buster to extract the mpegs and then use Vision Express to do burn the CD because I'd get better quality. I thought it was a bit much.

I believe whoever told you that wasn't referring to dvds or vobs, they were referring to vcds or svcds, which, when burned as vcd or svcd onto cdr create a bunch of folders with data, as well as the mpeg. So the best is to extract the mpeg from the vcd and/or svcd by using proper software so you get all the pertinent information in the mpeg, not just find the movie file in the folder, rename it to .mpg in explorer and copy it to your hard drive...

If you have a dvd (as you said above, vobs, bups and ifos), there should not be any mpegs to extract.
