A few online friends of mine got together and created a really odd sort of web comic called Codex Transportica that is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It's a bit difficult to explain. It seems more like something that belongs in a hardcover book, to be treated and read like fine literature, than something that you give the usual passing glance and less than a minute of your time, that would be typical with most sites on the web.
This is a real masterpiece. Very steampunk in spirit, this is what a web comic might have looked like, had it been written by Edgar Allen Poe. (That's right...Poe...not Verne)
Background story: My friends found some old hand written book containing illustrations and text that was difficult to decipher, all related to transportation. They are releasing sketches of the images and the deciphered text on the internet for all to read, as it is translated.
Why?
It is our belief that something profoundly significant to all of mankind lies buried deep within the pages – the few fragments we have translated make us sure of this. It would be premature of us to hint at what it all could mean – our first translations have taught us to be humble and cautious but this has not diminished out expectation of a truly wondrous revelation as we journey further into the book.
Up until today I never really took a good look at what they have posted on the site or kept up with new releases. While going through my RSS feeds today, I came across this and thought it was amusing enough to share here.
