It's working on secondary for me on 2K.
Havn't tried primary yet. Be sure you put the hosts file in C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc since you're using 2k

Also be advised, that it will take a bit of time before you can connect. A lot of anti-spyware programs will make the hosts file read only because many virii and spyware alter it so you may want to disable those and make sure it's not read only.

As far as WinMX being watched, OF COURSE IT IS, duh, thats how they gleen IP addresses, by putting up some stuff to trade and seeing who goes to get it, then they browse you, and then you get a lawsuit.

But this is not anything new, it's been this way.

You can be sure that the RIAA is watching these forums, and other like it, always had, always will.

Point is, it's no different and no more or less risky than it was last week or last month or whatever.

However if we keep the peer cache jumping around, then they will be a step behind (moving target theory).

Hopefully we'll eventually see a p2p cleint which is truly serverless, maybe using multicast to find nearby clients (think about it, you adjust your cast to find nodes within 5 hops, and if you don't find any, it adjusts for 6 hops, and so on, so you're always truly connected to the closest node).

Also, maybe a nice blacklist facility to exclude false files, spies, copyright laways, etc.

Lets hope the RIAA doesn't pay another visit to Winmx. Seems like an un-ending cat and mouse game. :crack

Going to take a little more than help me, you didnt even specify where you are having a problem with it.

Help?

1. connect a keyboard.
2. connect a mouse.
3. connect the monitor.
4. Plug your computer in.
5. Turn your computer on.
6. Install an operating system.

Ok seriously, you have to give us a frame of reference on where your stuck.

The patch is not working very well for secondaries, primaries however, work very well and are more desireable for the network anyways.

The secondary problem may just be that there aren't enough primaries to host everyone.

For those that were able to connect - My question is, Did you connect immediately or did in take a few minutes to connect? I'm at work and haven't tried it yet.

it DEFINITELY takes a bit of time to connect....I'm not sure how long because I had other matters to attend to.

I would guess though, that leaving it be for 15 minutes is not unreasonable, and then seeing if you connect...

I'm using Win XP and WinMX 3.53 , but in my case replacing this host file is not working. Shame..... I waited half an hour but no connection.... No idea what I'm doing wrong.
