slavanap will get your room up on it's own, or as part of a linked network. It's easy to set up and run, so you'll have it up in no time. oldversion.com has several versions of mx.

Thanks to the Guest who mentioned the spaces needed and missing 'c' in the patch text.

I cleaned that up first, opened Hosts in Notepad and added copy/pasted the new info below the 127.0.0.1 localhost then Save.
Connected straight away on Primary and took around 30 seconds on Secondary.

Bloody brilliant...many thanks to whoever came up with this....awesome!

It is amazing! I was able to get WinMX up and running again with this patch!
I don't understand the depths of how you're doing it but it works!!

re: UPDATE! New fix for Primary and Secondary Connections

I use 98 & there is a file called hosts.sam in the c/windows folder.
I moved the new hosts files to C/windows. Do I have to delete the .sam file or rename the new hosts file to hosts.sam?

Have got a connection anyway, but was curious to know what the answer is.

Hi Guest,
No don't rename or delete anything, you've done it correctly.

Take care

Hi guesttt,
I should think its most likely just the network being strained, bare with it, it should connect again.

Take care

I did the same thing...The only other choice right now is to download the old version 3.31, then download that zipped folder extract your files...and it worked for me on a primary connection, and in 3 minutes...good luck ;-)

Ahh, and i just read the post about numbers of primary connections and now im on as a primary :) If you havnt read it, basically, if you can connect as a Primary user, do so, as winmx needs a certain number of primaries before anyone else can connect.

i recently discovered that system file protection keeps on replacing the host file so here is what i did:

i extracted it too c:\windows\driver cache\i386

so if the file wants to be replaced it will get the patch back the way we wanted it.

I'm in mx chat right now and someone mentioned Vladd stating that we should only connect on Primary and Unshare all files....is that correct?
Have a friend in room that has 56k dialup and can't connect on Primary....whats the situation with this please?

If your'e reinstalling mx, during setup make sure you choose to Manually Configure network...when it gets to that stage.

Hello, i run music-video-torrents.afz.biz. I have also made a post on my forums with instructions. I have also uploaded the "fixed" patch. I went and fixed the errors in the file and I have uploaded it to about 10 web sites as a torrent file.
if you have problems with instructions you can visit my forums for full info on it.
Anyways, here is the download url for the new updated patch "fixed"
