UPDATE! New fix for Primary and Secondary Connections

The servers are still in beta. The problem is most likely not your computer. Remember ppl, the hard working programmers trying to fix this are starting from scratch. Give them time.

Folks for me the most recently published "hosts" file located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc doesn't work for me. More specifically IP 82.195.155.5 doesn't work as I write.

However when I use the previously published hosts file that specifies an IP of 205.238.40.1, I do get a SECONDARY connection after I wait about 10 MINUTES or so when trying to connect. Below is the previous hosts file that works for me, and look around for instructions to modify this file. You do not have to reboot your PC to recognize this patch.

Thanks for all the work and I tried the "patch" but it didn't work for me either. I guess I'll start paying like everyone else or until someone can find a way to make a product that worked as well as WinMX!

Hey , give them some time to figure things out....
The patches also don't work for me (yet), but we will see.

I did everything --replaced the file-but it still don't sign in. I was always a primary. I rechecked everything and restarted the computer,but it still won't sign in. What now?

Look up at previous post about getting a SECONDARY connection to work. Remember to wait about 10 minutes or so after initiating the connection. It's amazing to see a (limping) WINMX resurrected with a lot of users reconnected.

I did the patch and connected on primary...now can't get primary at all, still waiting for secondary...it's trying to connect

You gotta be a little patient for the reconnection...if the whole world of users is trying to connect to the one server right now (versus many more servers before I suppose... I hope), then it makes sense it'll take a little longer this time.

Now once you eventually reconnect you'll see that chat and search works like before. I didn't try to download anything yet so as to not push my luck and take the whole network down again with me selfishness

I tried the hosts file patch, rebooted and winmx would not connect on either sec or pri.

Win2k. 3 pc's networked (one of which is still on primary from before the winmx 'shutdown') I also had RoboMX set to get its WPN connection from the other pc thats on a primary. (RoboMX worked fine that way for years) Since the hosts patch didn't work for me, I put my original one back and rebooted again.

Now, RoboMX will not connect to the pc with the still running primary.

What on earth happened?

after installing the patch open a dos windows... typ in there ipconfig /flushdns then restart winmx and or system...... it worked for me...got it from http://www.p2pzone.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1561 hope it work for you all.... thanks to the makers of the patch

i did apply the patch as gemini777 said:
changed the host file
restartet PC (XP prof)
and after about 20 minutes waiting Winmx connected on primary
