If it's working fine, there's no reason to change settings.

I would first like to say thanks to all of you involved in keeping WinMX, the greatest P2P network ever alive. It looks like ALOT of people are having troubles getting WinMX to work again. I too am having trouble..... I am one of the fiathless that deleted WinMX when it stoped working. I redownloaded WinMX version 3.31 and installed it, downloaded Piepatch 2.3 and installed that, however during the setup/conectivity test it is still unable to connect and I cannot procead further. I also tried flushdns, still no luck. I also tried Select Start | Run (type) "services.msc", however my computer claims that I typed the name incorrectly, so no help there. PLEASE, if anyone can help me I would be eternally gratefull.

Windows ME
WinMX version 3.31

PLEASE HELP

That command may not be in WinME.
No matter, check this link for a help with configuring WinMX manually:

FAO - the hosts file is being updated with new IP addresses that correspond to the winmx list of fqdn's. As your machine checks the hosts file before querying any form of DNS, this will always work. (This is also the way some phishing scams work... but this isn't one of them)

ATTENTION:
Anyone who wants help needs to give us some info so that we can assist you.
First: when you fire up WinMX, do you get the message "Please be patient" in the upper-left, under the blue status bar? If you're getting the message, the patch worked and you've made contact with a server. No message, patch didn't take.
Second: are you trying to establish a primary or secondary conenction?
Third: what Windows version
4: WinMX version
5: connection type (i.e. dial-up, cable, DSL, etc)
6: what patch (a link woul dbe helpful)

No info=no able to help

Step 1: Check if this file is in yr win mx folder ... ws2_32.dll ... if it is there ... pls delete it. (u may need to close win mx to do this)

Pls remove the ws2_32.dll ONLY from yr WinMX folder (yr WinMx folder is the one containing yr winmx.exe which u r running WinMX from) and do not delete it from anywhere else.

Step 2 : Pls install pie patch 2.6 from here : FIX
Current fix to WinMX situation http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php
Click Pie Automatic Installation

Step 3 : Pls restart yr win mx

Step 4 : To set yr win mx settings :

A) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of win mx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart win mx

B) If u have a router ... pls map yr router to the same ports : TCP = 16699, UDP =16257
(router configuration guide : http://www.portforward.com)

C) : Disable XP Firewall (if u r using xp) and if u have yr own firewall : to allow WinMX (If u do not have any firewall pls get Sygate firewall free here : http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm and set Sygate to allow Win MX

To Disable XP Firewall :
Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall … hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

U shd be connected after that, any probs, let us know

If all else fails … log onto winmx and heck care whether can connect or not just hit chat... ok ... enter Vladd44 Help Channel_8AAB49441A22 in the black space at Filter and hit Join ... u will enter V44 room and there, ppl can help u get connected.

I am in V44 room as Kayleigh and inter-room PR and support (will help when I am in, if I am not there ... there r many others who r also there to help u get connected :)

I am back.

I uninstalled everything and took the uncompressed 3.53 form the archive. I just do not get a primary connection.

If I try to, he tells me:

- no TCP port for incoming connections
- no UDP port for incoming and outgoing packets

The conectiontest while installing winmx did not work. changing the settings does not help. I installed a new norton 2 weeks ago, but I turned him off.

Searching does not go good, even the chatrooms come up very slowly. No idea if it is my connection, my provider (had a vew month ago often problems after 16.00) or winmx.

But it is a first step and I love you all. :D

Have my primary connection back. Do not ask me how I did this all today. I messed around terribly  , but I am back. Now I hope the other ones from the score room find their way back to winmx too.

Congrats, Alien!
Of course, the easier method would have been to follow this link. I keep posting it all over this thread, it's even further up this same page even. However it seems that people are unwilling to folow it and get both an explanation of why the setup mistakenly says they can't recieve incoming connections, plus an explanation of how to set their ports manually.
Maybe if I post it once more, people will see it and follow..... http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5928
