It all went fine until last Saturday. Now i can't get a (secondary) connection anymore. I've tried to install the new PIEpatch but i says that there is an older version installed but it don't runs the uninstaller. If i manually look for an older version I can't find anything. flushdns didn't help either, services.msc isn't running at all. What shall I do?

If the automated installer is convinced that you have an olderversion on but you can't find it, try the manual install version.

No, you don't have to pay for WinMX...you can d/l WinMX 3.54 Beta at http://hrb.nukysrealm.net/p2p/download.php?list.2 or WinMX3.53 at www.oldversions.com and you can get the updated PIEpatch 2.6 to make it run here at www.vladd44.com or the Hostfile patch at www.winmxgroup.com

It's all free...unless you really want to pay...in which case I am sure that we can work something out...lol

I am using Win ME, I can find old hosts file in windows,but no patch works. I've tried autoinstaller & manual.There's a new installer just for win98/ME at winmxworld,tried didn't work- Keep getting error:cannot WRITE to hosts file. I can't edit(rename, delete,replace)with new hosts, nothing. I open hosts file(in notepad & it's empty, nothing in it,yet I can't edit it either, I tried to paste stuff from new hosts file,won't let me. I also have the HOSTS.SAM file. I open that in notepad & it has the microsoft stuff in it that was in the forum. Please help!!!!!!!!!

One of two problems: first, most likely you don't have administrator right to the system and therefore can't change system files. Second, as a system file it may be locked by another process. There is a new installer in the works that will deal with the second problem. Expect it by the end of the month at the latest.
