Transforming cd s to files for sharing

Postby Saxman on Sat Mar 20, 2004 10:27 am

:D Hi,

I have a cd collection that I would be happy to share, but I don't know how to turn them into files on my computer. Any help is very welcome!

There are many different applications to convert music to mp3 (which is the most popular compressed format for music), but I use dBpowerAMP, it's free, it'f VERY good and it's very easy. Go to this link and get the dBpowerAMP Music Converter:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

When you install it make sure to leave all the default settings checked, that way you can easily convert from Windows Explorer (as dbpoweramp will be associated with it).

After you install it, just open Windows Explorer, go to your cdrom drive which has the cd you would like to convert songs from, highlight a song or songs (select the first, then hold down the Shift key and click on the last to select them all), then right click on the highlighted area and you should get a popup menu with "Convert To" on the list. Select that and you will get another menu up where you can select what format you want to convert to, what bitrate and where you want to save your file(s). Basically that's it. I would advise using mp3 lame because I think it gives the best quality, and the most popular conversion is to 128kbps, although I usually convert to at least 192 kbps for better quality, sometimes even 256 or 320 kbps (of course the higher the bitrate, the larger the file).

I hope that helps
