torrents???

Postby davemn on Sun Oct 16, 2005 4:30 pm

I am new to torrents I just downloaded bitcomet client from a recomndation from a chat in WINMX. Then I was told from someone else that..."get abc instead ... bitcomet is iffy at reporting back and your ratio will suffer" What exactly does that mean and is it true? My next few questions are, I bookmarked isohunt.com, mininova, com, newnova.com, pirratebay.com, torrentspy.com, torrenttyphoon.com and hypertor.com. Now are they torrent search engines or trackers? or both? whats the difference between a torrent search engine and a tracker? I appreciate any assistance in plain engish, thanks :)

All torrents are "tracked" -- namely how much you download and how much you "seed" (namely, leaving torrent active after your download has completed).

If the trackers are getting iffy info, it means they could limit the amount of Bandwidth you get and/or actually block you from downloading all together.

I was using BitShadow for the longest time. I got excellent speeds, but I didn't like the fact that you had to start each torrent individually.

I eventually moved to ABC which I was using up until a week or two ago. I'm now having problems with it -- for some reason the torrents just stop in mid-download and I haven't gotten much of a response to my query as to why it might be happening.

I then went to TorrentStorm, which acted up for awhile but is now working fine.

I tried BitComet a couple of time but didn't find it user friendly.
