TMPEnc avi - mpeg2 problem

Postby Kingpin on Mon Jul 12, 2004 7:34 pm

I've downloaded an avi movie from WinMX.
Now when converting to MPEG 2 in TMPEnc all I get is a blank screen. At first I thought it was nothing so carried on, but when it came to authoring my DVD the video was still blank. Is this just another codec problem? I have just downloaded the AceMegaPack, could that be another cause??
please help

just thought I'd let you know that since downloading the AceMegaCodecPack, I have had several problems, I dont know if its a conflicting thing or just that the pack itself is corupt, but it caused Realplayer not to work at all, I could not open any of my avi, mpg, mpeg files at all. So I have uninstalled the pack. But the problem remains; i.e. Realplayer not working. I will try re-installing Realplayer.
If I get any more information, I will let you know, in case it helps with my previous problem.
thanks

Okay.. now I'm really lost!
I re-installed Realplayer, but there were some codecs missing, so i have re-installed AceMegaCodecPack.. I thought it was best to install as many codecs as possible. Was this the right thing to do?
I'm back to square 1... But worse. Now I cant even play the damm files let alone convert them to MPEG 2.
Oh dear God why am I so inept at this kind of stuff!?!
I hope there is enough info for you here.
Please help this wreck of a man!
Thankyou

No, as many is possible is never better. If you dowloaded the Ace Pak from http://www.rita.lt/ I have included a txt file which tells you what not to install and what to install separately. It even says IMPORTANT on it (if I recall correctly).

Another thing, are you using TMPGEnc Plus or the standard TMPGEnc? I haven't used the standard in ages, but if memory serves, I don't believe it encodes to mpeg2 (svcd), only to mpeg1 (vcd). Or else it limits the size of the file or SOME limitation like that. So make sure that you are using TMPGEnc Plus.

I seem to have sorted the problem, with converting the AVI's. I used the avi2vcd program to decompress the audio then encode them, then TEMPEnc DVD Author was fine with burning to DVD and it plays okay on my DVD player. Does this sound okay to continue to do this?

But the problem remains with Realplayer in that it still is not working. I followed the instructions that were with the AceMegaPack, all along but still no joy. What do you suggest?? (the icons which previously had the Realplayer symbol in them now have the media player classic symbol, which runs fine, but when I select 'open with realplayer' nothing happens)
Not that I'm against Media Player Classic, its just I am used to Realplayer, and want it back!
Thanks

Yes, I'm sorry, I thought you were following the ILLUSTRATED GUIDE on this site http://www.rita.lt/, which would have told you to decompress the audio anyway if you don't hear audio.

I would think that reinstalling REalPlayer now would work, but just a suggestion - Real Player is probably the biggest resource hog around, Media Player is probably the second. Get something like bsplayer or videolan (both free).

I would just like to say thankyou for your help
I will also follow your advice and get one of the other programs. I had no idea that a simple player would damage my resources but as they are stretched as it is, to say the least, I will delete the others and keep videolan.
Once again thankyou very much.
