The PIE Patch modifies your hosts file in order for WinMX to establish a connection to the network.

In most cases a large hosts file over 135 kb tends to slow down the computer.

This only occurs in Windows 2000 and XP. Windows 98 and ME are not affected.

To resolve this issue please complete the following steps:

1. Open the Services Editor:
a. Click Start
b. Click Run
c. Type services.msc



d. Click OK

2. Now that the Services Editor is open, search for DNS Client in the list.



3. Right click on DNS Client and choose Properties.

4. First click on the Stop button to stop the DNS Client running.

5. Then in the drop down box, change the startup type to Manual.



6. Click Apply


Following these simple steps just one time will ensure the hosts file does not slow down your computer in any way.
