Sygate users please read

Ok, I know this is old, BUT so is Sygate and Sygate won't be getting anymore updates to it so I figure it is good for the public to know about this.

Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6.2808 has a flaw that will allow a virus or Trojan Horse for example to connect out to the internet WITHOUT your knowledge.

This flaw is dated back to Dec. 15th 2006 and yet people on WinMX are STILL using and recommending Sygate to others.

So my question to you Sygate users is this.

Why do you still use Sygate even though a virus or something bypass the outbound protection it has?

Probably cause you took over a year to enlighten them?

I havent used sygate for around 2 years now, but i wasnt aware of this issue, so thanks for letting us all know, if somewhat late.

Lol very true, then again I just started using winmx again after a few years.
Would have thought some people would be more security aware.

I still use sygate. I got one little virus back in 2000, but destroyed it and reformatted the pc several times after that. (new drives, new OS, etc)
No trojans, no viruses since then... but also, block anything that smells like java, do not read emails unless I started the conversation and know exactly who or what sent them and from where (ip addy). It's really quite easy to keep the system clean, and deleting emails on sight is far faster than actually clicking and reading the penis ads, millions of dollars from nigeria, or what have you. It's a nice, fairly fast firewall and easy to use.
Faster and better is wipfw. But wipfw is a real pain to use, is not able to act on an application basis, and rarely sees an update, kinda like using the router or modem and iptables to do it.

Yeah, common sense beats any security software, but for those who use Sygate for making sure they know what is accessing the net at any given time should look else where as it can easily be bypassed.
