Strange Video Playing Problem

Postby Leevis on Mon Aug 23, 2004 5:43 am

Hi Everyone
New to all this posting action
I am having a few problems playing back a few movies that I have d/l using winmx.
I think that the ones I am having problems are, are MPEGS and not AVI
The problem is, lets say that the vid is 60mins long. When I open them with the default player they play fine but stop about half way through, also you can move the time bar at the bottom to jump about but that just seems to confuse the player. If I open them with DIVX (not too sure what player i have, i think that it is ver5) the same thing happens. HOWEVER, when I open them using my DVDplayer software (I think that this is MyDVD) they seem to work fine.
Now I am sure that this is a codec problem but have no idea which one to use. It is only recently that this has started to happen as I am sure that it was never a problem before but have reinstalled this and that loads over the past few months.
I have tried running GSPOT on the files and that just tells me that it is an MPEG.
This is not a major issue as I CAN view them but I reaally would like to be able to play them in Media Player if poss.
My PC is AMD XP2500+, Abit NF7-S, 512Mg Ram, WMP9
Thanks in advance
Lee

It probably is a codec problem, but not one that will be solved 100% because many players simply do not like mpegs, especially mpeg2 (svcd). They best players to play vcd's and svcd's on are players designed to play dvds, and two great players (although neither is free) are PowerDVD and WinDVD. Make sure you also have both mpeg1 and mpeg2 codecs installed, that should help with most.
