Ello folks! Many thanks for a fantastic job in keeping WinMX alive! you should be knighted for your efforts! I've been able to connect to the network recently but only on a primary connection, my problem is that the connection is randomly disconnecting and causing my PC's connection to everything else to be lost as well (MSN, Internet etc), also, when connected to WinMX, other users seem to either connect to me straight away with no problems or not at all, they just constantly time out. I'm running Win XP SP2, PIE patch 2.6, I'm on a DSL connection (Tiscali UK 2mb), I do use a BT Voyager 200 router with the appropriate ports forwarded to my PC, I don't have any add ons to WinMX. Other that I've mentioned above, the only other thing of note to mention is that I have had trouble with other download programs locking up my PC before, notabley LimeWire and Morpheus. Can anyone offer a solution? It's getting to be a bit frustrating having to reboot my PC all the time! :bang :bang :bang

HELP!
I'm running W2K with the latest .dll patch.
I have followed the instructions and it works, EXCEPT......

I have to connect through a proxy server to be able to download. My ISP blocks peer to peer traffic.
I am unable to connect through the proxy.

KM's patch has a bug that makes it disconnect. Pls follow the following instructions :

A) Get a fresh copy of winmx from here : http://www.vladd44.com/mx/winmxmirror.php

Install it ... place settings as follows : no proxy, TCP=16699, UDP =16257

B) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of winmx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart winmx

Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall … hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

D: Check if this file is in yr winmx folder ... ws2_32.dll ... if it is there ... pls delete it. (u may need to close winmx to do this)

E : pls install pie patch 2.6 from here : FIX
Current fix to WinMX situation http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php
(pick Pie Automatic Installer and it self-installs)

F : pls restart yr winmx

After this, u shd be connected :) If all else fails, come look for us in V44 room :) My screen name is Kayleigh in V44 room at Vladd44 Help Room_57FABCD81A23

re: Still not getting connected? Help us sort out your probl

Postby Guest on Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:42 am

What operating system? (XP)
What patch are you running? (PIE 2.6)
What instructions specifically did you follow? (download and install)
Who is your isp? Direcway
Router? Home LAN through hub. We share the satellite connection on 3 computers.
What addons to winmx are you running? None

I have never used the winmx addons or chat forums. All I do is download and let others download from me. I tried to connect yesterday. When I couldn't I found this site. I downloaded the pie patch and it worked. I rebooted this morning and now I can not connect. I un-installed the patch and then re-installed and still no go.

Any suggestions?

XP Pro /isp freeserve/wannadoo/ im runnin the PIEPatch2.6.exe instructions From http://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/kms_patch.html

IF you've installed both of the patches as you stated, you may as well remove the PIE patch. It's not doing anything if the DLL is installed, and on some systems tehy interfere with each other, making WinMX unstable.

Hello again, please bare with me. a bit thick when it comes to all this. only just getting used to some of the terminology. I've so far installed "pie" patch v 2.6and i've tried the flsdns (or something like that) option but had know luck. my os is windows xp and isp is the dreaded AOL. i don't use a router and haven't got a clue what addons are. for a guess i will say Gnucleus(this seemed to come along with winmx when i installed it. I've basically tried all 3 options that you give on your page. when i try to connect to winmx i can only try and make a secondary connection. in the top left hand corner of screen it says "please be patient" so i left it overnight but it still hadn't connected the following morning. Hope that info was ok and that somebody can help me out. please go easy (where possible) on all the technical terms . i am still learning

U r using the 2.5 version of pie patch (cos the 2.6 won’t have a Pls be patient but a blank space :) Pls update to the latest version pie patch 2.6 version… Follow these instructions to get connected :

Step 1: Check if this file is in yr winmx folder ... ws2_32.dll ... if it is there ... pls delete it. (u may need to close winmx to do this)

Pls remove the ws2_32.dll ONLY from yr WinMX folder (yr WinMx folder is the one containing yr winmx.exe which u r running WinMX from) and do not delete it from anywhere else.

Step 2 : Pls install pie patch 2.6 from here : FIX
Current fix to WinMX situation http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php
Click Pie Automatic Installation

Step 3 : Pls restart yr winmx

Step 4 : To set yr winmx settings :
Set winmx settings to no proxy used, TCP=16699 and UDP=16257

A) Changing ports to 16699/16257 with no proxy selected :

1) Hit Settings (button at top of winmx screen)
2) Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections > Click : Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly)
3) Incoming TCP Connections : Click the top option : Listen on port 16699 for incoming TCP Connections (type in 16699)
4) Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets > Click the top option : Send and receive UDP datagrams on port 16257 (type in 16257)
5) Hit Close and restart winmx

C) : Disable XP Firewall (if u r using xp) and if u have yr own firewall : to allow WinMX (If u do not have any firewall pls get Sygate firewall free here : http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm and set Sygate to allow WinMX

To Disable XP Firewall :
Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall … hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

U shd be connected after that, any probs, let us know

If all else fails … log onto winmx and heck care whether can connect or not just hit chat... ok ... enter Vladd44 Help Room_57FABCD81A23 in the black space at Filter and hit Join ... u will enter V44 room and there, ppl can help u get connected.

I am in V44 room as Kayleigh and inter-room PR (will help when I am in, if I am not there ... there r many others who r also there to help u get connected :)
