mid_1961 also check if you're using Norton AV 2005 or above that WinMX is set in Internet worm protection to "allow"

I, too, have upgraded to System mechanic v6.

Looking at my Hosts file, I see that it has been 'modified' by System Mechanic.

How do I get to back to the correct Hosts file, i.e. not my very original one, but the one that will allow WinMx?

If you have a hosts file that has been modified by a legitimate program, you can use the manual installation, open it, then copy and paste the contents into your own hosts file so you have the benefit of using winmx while keeping the information from the old hosts file altered by the other program

Does this mean copying the patch INTO the hosts file, or renaming the old file and copying the patch as the 'Hosts' file?

I have done everything, and now am back at a Primary connection, but P=8, S=0, and no-one able to download from me. If I switch to a secondary connection I get connected, with very slow uploads, but no downloads.

I have tried to contact v44 via the chat page: again, nothing happens.

I have done all of the 'Magic Formula': I have reconfigured my router, flushed dns, turned dns off, reloaded an 'approved' WinMX. And I don't believe that my ISP (Supanet) blocks up/downloads at all.

I am sure it's something simple....

Open the patch in notepad. Highlight everything below this line "127.0.0.1 localhost".
Hit ctrl-c
Open up your hosts file.
Move the cursor to the end of the file.
Hit ctrl-v
Select "save"

S=0 problem ...

only 2 factors possible :

1) u have the KM's dll patch somewhere. Pls recheck u have done STEP1 in Magic Formula (MF) here http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6216 ... that u don't have the ws2_32.dll anywhere in yr win mx folder. If u see it there, pls delete it ... that is the reason why u have the S=0 problem.

If u have installed a 1.9 patch bundled with win mx from win mx group or win mx world ... pls uninstall yr win mx completely and delete the win mx folder it is in...

then after u have removed KM's dll patch u can reinstall the pie patch at Step2 of Magic Formula and then restart yr win mx. U will not have the S=0 problem anymore.

2) Ports r incorrect or blocked.

Follow MF on ports/router/firewall

Check that ur xp firewall is indeed disabled. Other firewall set to allow win mx.

What ports r u using? What os r u using?

if u can connect on primary .. go to Vladd44 Help Room_57FABCD81A23 and look for me (I am Kayleigh there) I will solve yr problem :)

others still can not UL from me. I've only ever installed 2.6 patch. I'm using the standard 6699 & 6257 ports and they check out great with PG2. I'm using ZA pro and have opened 6699 & 6257 ports. my searchs work so my ZA is not the problem. I'm able to get a primary connection. currently it P5 S9 SPM6654. Cox is my ISP. No router. I have XP Professional SP2

Here's your problem in a nutshell...
catch wrote:Cox is my ISP
you could try changing ports, a friend of mine had some success for a spell using TCP 1547 (laplink) & UDP 5631 (pc anywhare) .. assuming you use neither of these.

Although I read somewhere Cox is now filtering TCP based on packet header & dropping connections.. setting WinMX as "Unable" on TCP might help.. & making a secondary, failing THAT, change ISP

(edit to correct typo)

Short and sweet, Frontcode (people who made WinMX) pulled the plug on their servers in Sept. You now need a patch in order to connect with WinMX.
You can get one here: http://www.mxpie.com/downloads.html

Pay sites are, and have always been scams. From the first day it was released WinMX has been free.
I would get a new version of WinMX from www.mxpie.com/downloads.html as well as the patch. There's a possibility that the version of WinMX you got from the pay site has been altered in some way that is interfering with the patch.

Bearded Blunder wrote:I agree with bob here BendMX shouldn't interfere with your ability to connect, one way or the other, just be aware if you try with bend installed that it puts it's OWN WS2_32.dll in your winmx folder, which should NOT be deleted, it's required for BendMX to work.. please if you got your winmx here & pie patch, ignore that particular instruction.

As to your connection issue, what type of Internet connection do you have?

Many cable/dsl modems contain routers without it being obvious, & these often require that you either set port forwarding, or set your PC as the "default server" which causes it to forward ALL ports to you.

If you set both TCP & UDP during setup to "unable" & try making a secondary connection, you may have more luck, if it connects in this (less than ideal) configuration, you can then look at port configuration later.
Winmx is one of the expections in my firewalls settings but it still won't work. :( Is there anything else that can be done? Is any1 else having this prob? It happens when when I set winmx up and it tests my dsl connection.

What operating system? = XP

What patch are you running? = After trying two other patches now using Mxpie 2.9

What instructions specifically did you follow? = http://www.vladd44.com/mx/piepatch.php (amongst others)

Who is your isp? = telefonica (Spain) broadband

Router? = no

What addons to winmx are you running? = none

And anything else you think might have bearing, nothing to small.
I get the winmx screen up saying Please be patient but give up after a couple of hours. I have tried to get into vladds help site in chat but cant connect there neither.
I have always been secondary connection.

Please help…..I’ve been trying to connect for months. I’m not very computer literate so be gentle with me.

If u r Spanish : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6370

If u r English speaking : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6216

Both feature Magic Formula to help u connect to winmx.

However certain pointers :

If u have just switched from dll patch to pie patch as in 1st paragraph of Magic Formula here http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6216 simply follow steps (i) to (v) - this will eliminate any conflict by switching from dll patch to pie patch ... it will also eliminate any possibility of corruption in yr current winmx.

If u always use secondary ... why not try this :
Go here http://Vladd44.com/mx/timingout.php and do everything under 3rd option at *If That Didn't Help*

Also make sure u do C at Magic Formula here since u use xp :
C) : Disable XP Firewall (if u r using xp) and if u have yr own firewall : to allow WinMX (If u do not have any firewall pls get Sygate firewall free here : http://www.tucows.com/get/213160_90233 or here : http://www.simtel.com/product.download. ... p?id=53687 and set Sygate to allow Win MX)

To Disable XP Firewall :
Start > Right click My Network Places > Hit Properties > for the connection u see there (eg: LAN) right click on LAN (if it is LAN) and hit Properties > Select Advanced tab > at Windows Firewall ?hit Settings > Click *Off* > hit OK.

Any problems u can visit either Vladd44 Help Channel_3437A4431A22 for English speaking users or Vladd44 AYUDA EN ESPA袿L - CHAT CANAL_8E4FA1531E64 for Spanish speaking users.

If u use 3.53 or 3.54 beta win mx, u don't need to be connected to join either rooms ... just copy and paste room name in the space right of Filter and hit Join.
We have PR Crew there who r glad to help u connect :)

Followed all that (I think)

I think I have disabled windows firewall. Tried to "allow" in Zone Alarm but it wouldn't recognise winMX, so switched it off completely.
Still can't connect and still can't get into the chat room for help. I am using 3.53 so should be able to get into room.

Got completely lost on the disabling XP firewall
