I was wjust thinking about how secure it is to transfer and recive files using winmx and a VPN? Is it a safe way to trade?

Do senders/recivers know your IP address?

I saw in your form that some files contain spy ware. How do you identify them?

Any ideas on this would be very informative to all users I would think.

safe - no
secure - no
ip addy - can be found, if they really want it, no matter how you proxy through it, though some anon proxies can be hard to trace, nothing is impossible.

i have used a vpn for about a year now, and have had no problems with it, but safe and secure are relative terms.

spyware - identify with ad-aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and some even better software out now - http://security.kolla.de/
both are free, with the second one being MUCH better than the first. Just be forwarned that IF you delete some spyware, you program that needed it may not work anymore.

Also, the full paths of your shared files are displayed with a button on the browse window. So if your paths reveal sensitive info such as your name, you might consider renaming the path folders or relocating the files.
Hopefully this feature will be removed in the next version.

I dont want to remove complete file paths from winmx, because there are times that winmx fins files because of the name in the file path.

track1.mp3 is useless, except for the fact that winmx searches the file path, and could very well have the group and or cd name in folder names.

But this is a piece of information that users should be aware of, and take steps to avoid exposing.
