Scientology goes after critics with 4000 dmca notices

A huge trove of critical videos of Scientology was targeted for takedown late last week by a group called American Rights Counsel. The group sent more than 4,000 DMCA takedown notices to YouTube and claimed that every video infringed on its copyrights, according to the EFF.

Those who take on the notoriously litigious "church" of Scientology—including groups like "Anonymous"—know what they're up against and are willing to take action to keep their messages up. It appears that most of the pulled content has been reinstated already after the various uploaders filed DMCA counter-notices asserting that the videos in question did not infringe copyright.

The targets of the takedown action included everything from Anonymous protest videos to Clearwater City Council hearings (Scientology has a major presence in Clearwater, Florida) to German and Canadian news reports. This led YouTube users to rant in public forums about the "abuse" of YouTube's takedown system by American Rights Counsel, which even went after user-created videos.

Actually, CJ would be the perfect one for this job...

All he has to do is find a bunch of anti-Scientology smilies that don't infringe on anyone's copyright and upload them for us all to use. (satire falls under fair use, btw)

Can't help ya there... since switching to phpBB3 I can't add smilies. I do find it interesting that Noblikker & April make a good team tho ... both are either bitching about too many smilies or suggesting I add more.

You can add as many f**k smiles as you like, so long as the webserver can offer a decent speed to be able to cope. Adding more smiles to a server that takes half a day to open what is already there, is as dumb as a parafin heater in your igloo.

No, no, no...don't misunderstand us. Even when we are suggesting you add more, we are really sarcastically bitching that there is too many.

What we really need around here are more forum mods, not more smilies. In particular, it would be nice to have these:

1. One that allows each member to have their own personal page of favorite smilies, so we don't have to hunt through a million pages to find the ones we want, and all our favorites will be on a single page.

2. A tagging system where we can tag the smilies with descriptive keywords so we can sort them, and a tag cloud at the bottom of the page.

3. A search box at the top of the page to find ones we want. This would probably have to rely on the tagging system.

Once we have all of that, we can stop bitching and actually mean it when we suggest you add more.

Scienttology is a dangerous sect, which is under observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in my country.

Any anti-scientology stuff posted must be uploaded to Vladd's server...then you can alert the wackos and give them a link.

Youtube vids just get more DMCA notices sent to youtube...not Vladd.

Unless you want to make your own anti-scientology vid and let Vladd host it.
