same problem with all bittorrent clients

hey i've been having some problems with bit torrent and was hoping someone might have some clues.

no matter what client i use whether its abc/azureus/etc etc.. i have the same thing happen. i work out what ports the program uses, open the ports using portforwarding on my cable router and it makes no difference.. i still get ludicrous d/l speeds of like 3.5k/s (max any given torrent gets up to is only about 10-15k) and when i've got the client open and it is downloading and uploading it chokes my entire connection somehow, in a way that means i cant even open webpages (they open but its like you're on dialup). i have a 1meg cable connection, you'd think when the total upload and download combined is 30/k that you'd be able open a webpage considering you've still got all that bandwidth. i've done tests (a lot of the clients have them) to see if the ports are open and it says they are...


does anyone have ANY ideas...?? i'm going nuts

perhaps you have a 1 meg connection, when your ISP doesn't object to the traffic. Lots of ISP are 'traffic shaping' and have targeted torrents since the word is torrents are accounting for over half of all internet traffic. just an idea. might not be related to your problem at all.
