Run WinMX with new versions of Wine

Postby heat84 on Sun Jan 06, 2008 2:11 am

http://www.winmxworld.com/forum2/index. ... 969.0.html
Someone posted it at the WinMxWorld forum. I haven't tried it yet myself, but it seemed to work for the users that posted in that thread.

I assume since theres nothing about this in this section of the forum, It hasn't been mentioned yet around here.

These are from a link given there & each .dll matches my XP Pro files exactly.. :toothpick

it worked for me when i saw this link several days ago on their forum,
do mind you that the built in dlls have modifications to allow compatability through linux , and that by replacing them they can affect how other programs work inside the emulator.
the shell.dll and shell32.dll that are over riden to allow many games and multitask capable apps to run will cause winmx to crash.

Mine works ok so far as long as emoticons are turned off in robomx as described. I wonder if placing the dlls mentioned above inside the fake windows/winmx folder would make the wine override un-needed and also isolate them from other apps running under wine. Hmm...

I was going to try vmware instead of wine, but putting vmware on a linux machine is pure, nightmarish, hell.

That still worked. I removed the dlls to a totally new folder elsewhere and that worked too. With un ending curiosity, I then deleted the new folder and the dlls within. Rebooted, still works fine. (oops! I had updated wine to its latest version then forgot about it) so, I guess you no longer have to worry about doing the dll overide, the new vers of wine works without having to do that. :forestelf2
