Restarting a possibly corrupted torrent?

Postby okuhan on Sat May 13, 2006 3:12 am

I'm downloading a season of one scfi series (sized 7.5 GB) and I'm about 25% through. There have been some errors, but I've been able to continue by restarting the download. My question is: is it possible that the files are corrupt due to the errors? I just want to make sure I don't wait for nothing. I'm using bittorrent 4.4.1

My download speed sometimes drops to 1-10 kb/s, but it usually goes back to 50-150 kb/s if I pause and resume the download. One time I did it I got this error message: Bad fastresume info (files contain more data)

I have also got these error messages:
Piece 1440 failed hash check, re-downloading it
Data corrupted on disk - maybe you have two copies running?

Piece 1440 failed hash check, re-downloading it << This is a fairly normal error message, dont worry bout that one, simply put, yer Bit Torrent client is re-downloading a piece of suspect data.

However, this one: Bad fastresume info (files contain more data) I would suggest stopping the torrent, and force a hashcheck of the data that you have, VS. what you dont, this may help clear that one up.
Dont pause and resume your download unless necessary, your speed will fluctuate on it's own, nothing ya can do there.

Lastly: is it possible that the files are corrupt due to the errors? Not likely, it is more likely, judging by what else you have posted, you will end up with an incomplete download, acting as if it is corrupt, due to the missing pieces.
When in doubt, force a hash check, that way what your BT Client reads is the same as the tracker ideally.
