.rar?? help

This is my first torrent. I have succefully downloaded it but I can't do anything with the files. I have two files (cd1 and cd2) and they are filled with data with extensions unrecognized by me or my computer. Such as ".rar" and ".r01,.r02,r03..." How do I make it work?

you need winrar to extract the files and combine them into one file.
The extensions .r01, r02, etc.......... are archive files that WinRAR will recognize and compile into the files you downloaded. Why some ppl do this to their torrents I have no idea, but get used to it because you are going to run into it alot.

they do it because on newsgroups the files get split up for various reasons i wont get in to, and many of the torrents are just re-releases of the files from the newsgroups.

As for why they dont extract the files first then release the extracted files... anyone want to have a guess?
