playing avi on tv

I have a cable that connects my pc to the video input on my tv. I can see the entire desktop on the tv. I can even see the avi player(real or divx) shell on the screen and i can hear audio if i try to play a movie file but no video. just a black or sometimes purple screen. help~!

u running an ati or other way that allows u to run multiple monitors?

and you are adding your tv as a 2nd output unit?

if this is the issue read below, if not, sorry i wasted your and my time, but its a good reason for people to put more specifics when they ask a ? .

This is on Win2k, other minor variations for other operating systems.

on your desktop, right-click , properties,settings, advanced, displays, displays, click the tab to activate the tv, and then there are 4 squares below, click the one in the top left position. then u will be able to see movies on your tv.
