no picture in finished mpeg

i am converting avi-mpeg. i have used virtualdub to make wav file. i have then put avi and wav file into tmpgenc. when it has finished the file opens in mpeg but there is only sound and a black screen. no picture. what has gone wrong? can anyone help? thank you please.

Do you have an mpeg video codec? You never mentioned what kind of mpeg you are encoding to... For vcd you need mpeg1, for svcd/dvd you need mpeg2.

no i dont think so. it is a vcd i am trying to make. it has worked foe other smaller avi files. but when i try the larger files i have this problem. if i need the codecs where can i get them? thank you.

Well if it worked for any avi, no matter how small or large, then you do have the codec. It would take a lot more information to figure out what's going wrong. What I would suggest is that you get my TMPGEnc guide and go through it to see if you're doing everything right:
