Over 90% of my selected downloas end in red timeouts: Why?

As stated in the title, I am having major issues with getting downloads to work.

I have tried using your MX Help Guide. I click on 'download problems', then on 'The file has many people sharing it, but they all timeout'. However, it opens a page titled, 'fake files WinMX working around fakes' so am none the wiser.

Are there any settings I can tweak to improve this situation? Thanks.

The reason you have ended up on the fake files section is the very fact that it might be the reason you are timing out. The Riaa sponsered media companies are flooding Winmx and other p2p with fake files, these will not DL in most cases and will time out, much like what you are seeing. There is also a possibility your router is not set up correctly, have you forwarded the correct ports?

Thanks for your input. I am on dialup, hence no router. Not sure if ports forwarding is necessary for a PCI modem. Had to adjust TCP connections manually which seems to work most of the time. Otherwise, how to you forward ports?
