Once I've got the movie, how to I burn it off the computer?

Postby MinzeMike on Wed Apr 21, 2004 3:28 pm

I know that you can burn movies that are 710mb or less onto regular
CD-r's but I still have many movies that are above 700mb. I was wondering what I can do to get these movies burned. A few people told me that a DVD burner might work but I don't have the money for that.

If I buy blank DVD-R discs, can I still burn them off the computer without a DVD burner?

Sorry but you can't use dvd disks without dvd burner. You'll have to split the files and use cdr http://www.rita.lt is a great place for info on most movie related stuff. Peace!

Hey, I'm back again. I went to that link and I found a program that I thought I could use. MaxSplitter. I loaded the file I wanted to split and it went all right until I tried to open the 2nd split. The 1st split of the movie worked fine and the file name for the 1st split is (001) and split 2 is (002). Split 2 does not work. It says it can't read thos types of files.

Could you help me with this program or if there's another program I can use, send me the link.

Thanks,
Mike D.

You might like to try Gordian Knot available HERE

Try posting in the Video Help forum, you're more likely to get the help you are seeking. :)

Gordian Knot? uhm... no, not Gordian Knot... maybe you are thinking of VirtualDub (which Gordon Knot uses).

I'll be taking MaxSPlitter off the site because I don't like it personally. It was a request that I put it there...

You keep saying "movie" but unless I missed something I didn't see what format the "movie" is.

You can look for an easy app called EasyVIdeoSplitter which will split both avi's and mpegs (not free tho, and does not ALWAYS do a great job).

If the movie is mpeg I would use TMPGEnc tools
http://www.rita.lt/video_tools/help/tmpgenc_tools_splitjoin.htm

If the movie is avi I would use VirtualDub or avisplit (the former is better but slightly more difficult). Both available at
http://www.rita.lt

It really is sad when people can't view better quality files (avi is almost always better quality than an mpeg (vcd/svcd)) simply because they are lacking some itsy bitsy codecs on their machines.

If your player gives you some generic error message that doesn't give you any clue which codec you need, try opening the file in several different players. One of them is bound to tell you which codec the video requires. Then simply Google up the codec, download it, and install it. The same codec will then usually work in every player installed on your system.

That sure is a hell of a long way to go about it, Bart - and defniitely not the best. I'll post one of the links I posted above again:
