Newbie in distress

Just installed Bit Torrent program. Nothing downloads. There are small documents in "my videos". When I open them I get an error message that the ".....temporary internet file can't be found." What did I do wrong? What do I need to to correct.? I am running XP on a wireless network. TIA for your help

Hmmm if i understand you correctly, i think u are trying to open the tracker? You need to:

1: Download the tracker for the torrent u wish to DL - from the website.
2: Open your torrent client
3: Import the tracker into the client

Most clients then automatically start the DL

If this doesnt cover your problem, please give more details, perhaps a step by step as to what exactly your doing?

Thank you for responding. I guess I don't know the difference between the 'tracker' and the 'client'. Care to explain? I thought the torrent program was the tracker and the client the source of the desired download. How do I do what you described? I went to box torrents.com. Tried to download a couple of anime movies. Only got a small document. When I tried to open the file was not found although Bit torrent program opened. It appeared that it was looking in my temporary Internet files. Does this help? Thanks

That should improve your understanding of how it all works.

The small file you DL from the torrent site is simply a file containing the info for the main DL. You need to import this small file into your BT client, it should then start automatically. I'm not sure what client your using but heres a guide from scratch:

1. DL Torrent Storm here - http://www.torrentstorm.com/pages/downl ... nloadid=11

2. Install Torrent Storm this is now your BT client.

3. Visit a torrent site try - http://www.torrentspy.com/directory.asp?mode=sub&id=35

4. Select abba as a test only

5. This will then open a DL window, hit the "Download" icon

6. This will Open a DL box, click "save" and save it into a folder on your Hard drive.

7. Once the DL is complete (only takes a few seconds) Open Torrent Storm, your BT client.

8. There is a full guide you should read but for now close the guide and goto the main Torrent storm Window.

9. Click on the "Folder icon" just underneath the main "file" menu

10. Double click on the Abba file you just DLed from the site, it should then appear in the main box, if all is well it will shortly begin to connect.

I love it when you abuse yourself publicly... do it again please? And who doesn't lust after computer geeks?

One more think you might want to try Guest, is once you have your handy dandy client installed, look through the options or preferences (usually located under tool tab on top of it) and look for something that might say: "Associate .torrent files" for that particular client. That will make them load in automatically too.

thanks for the help Nobby. I have done as you instructed. I was able to download one movie. Everything else I try to get gives me a 'metainfo error'. What do I do now? TIA
