Hey guys, I just downloaded BT and I've got a question. I recently downloaded a torrent file off the internet, and using the BT program downloaded it. But how do I locate the file after I downloaded it, because it stayed as a torrent file, and didn't change format. Thanks.
a torrent file is not a real file. It may have dl the torrent (depending on exaclty what u did, and what client u used)
but it WILL NOT save the main file as a torrent file. do a search for it, and see where it was saved.

Probably the easiest solution is to do: start > search > *name of file here* (make sure you choose the "search all files and folders option") or start the client and find the location the program chose to dl the file too.
A torrent doesn't change into the file that you wanted. A torrent contains the necessary information to connect you to the tracker and all the users who have the file. That's it's soul purpose. When you start a torrent in a torrent client (like BT experimental, torrent storm, azureus etc) it will create a "dummy" file that gets filled with data eventually becoming your file. Sometimes it creates a folder with the files in it, sometimes it's just the file.

Unless the torrent you were downloading was in itself a torrent file JK
If all else fails, including the old SEARCH standby, just open the torrent again in the SAME program you used to download it, and take note of where the download default is set to. Most will default to the last place you saved, with a few exceptions.
