New user - burning with Nero

Hi, I had a dvd burner installed some weeks ago, with Nero express 6 software. I have only been able to burn small files (music videos), mpg's to cds. It wont allow me to burn an avi movie file to a dvd.

I've enquired with another forum and was told I needed a dvd authoring program of which there are no free ones available. I have been to the Nero website, but they wanted another $100 for the Nero 6 reloaded software. Shouldn't that have been installed with my burner anyway? I have an LG dual layer burner.

I've also googled but really dont know where to go from here. I dont have any knowledge of authoring or converting programs. Have WinXP home SP2. Any advice would be appreciated.

Go to a WinMX chatroom that has to do with movies. They will give you the assistance that would not be wise on the web.

Also, full versions of Nero are easy enough to find if you look around.
