New Patch?

Postby Pointman on Tue Apr 06, 2004 1:52 pm

:?: Has anyone seen a patch for WinMX that alters the VAPI file? I DL'ed it to see what it does but it doesn't give any info. It replaces the pcxnt_e.dll, pcxaudio.dll, and pcxtl2np.dll. Any help is welcome. Thanks.

You downloaded and installed something that you have no idea what it does or why?

Just how many virus infections have you had now?

You must think me totally witless :lol: I haven't installed it, just wanted to look at it. Besides, my server that I run WinMX on is an old junker that if it gets infected, I just wipe and reinstall. Thanks though!

Oh! PHEW, Um yeah I did think that :lol: But still, why even download it if you don't know what it does? Doesn't make sense to me. Sorry I can't help any further, I don't know what VAPI file is, and;

What have these got to do with Winmx? Have you installed another patch/plugin for Winmx that might need it? Where did you get this 'patch' anyway? And when am I gonna stop asking questions? :lol:

I DLed it because I know that WinMX sometimes does some weird things, like all of a sudden, I lose all my queues, not only the queues I am waiting in but all those who are in my queue also. I even lose all my server connections (opennap), but my connection to the internet remains up. Sometimes my (and those DLing from me) speed drops to zero for a minute and then picks up. I always hope for a cure or at least an understanding. So if I see a patch or text file that I haven't seen before, I get it and read the text and hang on to the patch to find out what it does. If I can't find out what the patch is, I don't install. Maybe I am just looking for the meaning of life. Maybe I just need a life. I am so confused :? Txs for the help.

No I haven't but I will check it out in a sec. I just wanted to public announce my shame in not wearing my glasses when working with the computer. The patch that I have been so vexed about turns out to be a patch for WinMix. This turns out to be a type of search engine for Win98 and the patch helps to install this program in NT, 2000, and XP. So sorry for the total waste of time. :oops: Thank you for your time on this Czar.
