I dont know what client your using but maybe a change is in order - either torrent storm or azureus are good options. The second azureus is a java client and you might have better results using that one since some of the older clients are harder on computer resources (ie: ram)

I think beeza was on the right track.

When the download is running, how much resources are available?

Are you at 100% ? If so you could benefit by throttleing your bandwidth a bit, could keep you from freezing. On how to throttle, well it depends on your bittorrent client..and whether it even has that option. Some do, some dont.

tried switching clients like i suggested and throttling your bandwidth like vladd suggested? Both clients I gave links to allow you to throttle your bandwidth.

Other than "freezing" only other reasons a torrent would stop are because there are no seeds for the torrent, you have all that is available (sometimes no one is sharing a complete copy and you'll get stalled at 90% cause that's all that's available) or there is a problem with the tracker. Best solution in those instances is to stop the torrent and try again later ...
