music file format - mp3 or wma?

i hav only recently downloaded WinMX and am sharing files with other users. The only problem is only afew of my music files are in mp3 format the rest i have copied from CDs onto my computer and are in wma format. is there any difference?
I have noticed that people downloading my music are only downloading the mp3s. does this mean that people searching for mp3s aren't seeing the wma music?
if so is there any way of converting wma to mp3?
i'm not very knowledgable in this sort of thing so thanks for any suggestions.

well the default search for audio is mp3 - any bitrate. to find wma you have to go farther down the list of file types you are searching for

Mp3 is shared by default if it is wma you have to add that file type to your list of file extentions to include on mx ... check under "shared files" > "shared file types" to see if wma is included.

wma is not very good, mp3 is better and personally i think ogg is the best. Most want mp3 though. I wouldn't try converting those wma files but would delete them and get cdex and rip the cd again into mp3 format. Will prolly be faster than converting to mp3 and you wont lose any sound quality this way.

If you used windows media player to rip those cd's ... the player adds some identifying code to the file including your computers name ... so another reason to delete and switch to mp3 format

I host a copy of CDex here which requires very little, if any, configuration on your part.

It's a good download if software setups make your squeamish.
