Movies onto CDs to view on DVD player

I want to burn movies (mpeg, avi, asf) onto a CD for the purpose of viewing them on a DVD player (PS2).

Can someone could give me a starting point as to what I need to read up on please?

Is it even possible? I've heard of VCDs - is this what I need?

PS2 is not a proper DVD player, and as such, as far as I know, it can't play VCD's or SVCD's.

Go out and buy a proper DVD player. They're selling for as cheap as $40usd these days.

That's very true NRen2k5, I missed the PS2 in parentheses in the initial post. I've never had a chipped PS2 though, I don't know whether they would play vcd or svcd, but i doubt it...

yep the latest chip for the ps2 does allow vcd to play, couple of guys i work with have had it done i think they said svcd plays as well but i wont swear to that. If anybody has a deep need to know i can find out and post the answer.

I would think that if someone really needs to know if their chipped ps2 does or doesn't play vcd/svcd their little fingers shouldn't be too lazy to go and google for their modchip model to see if it does...

Another thing,not all DVD players will play VCD,s SVCD's and avi files.Make sure the player you buy does. AVI Industries makes a player for under $200 that will play anything you throw at it.AV-100
