jurky dvd

hi can anyone help? i have taken some divx movies,recoded them and burned them on to dvd they play great on my computer thro wmp but when i put them on my standalone dvd player onto the tv the picture is perfect but sometimes the picture freezes for a split second from the sound then catches up this spoils what is otherwise great movies any ideas thanks al
