Invalid Files

Postby EMHdoc on Sun Dec 16, 2007 12:13 am

I'm new to this site, but an old hat at using WinMX. Been around since before the shutdown and I'm in the process of rebuilding my collections (lost in a computer meltdown).

I've been running into a problem when I search for songs, I get huge results and most never connect or time out.

I have a feeling these are not valid files because every user returned in my search results has over 3,000 files shared, always has plenty of available slots for download, and none of them ever connect.

Perhaps this is an issue that has been covered elsewhere on the site, so if it has I apologize for not having the time to examine all the extensive pages of information.

I could really use some help in sorting out what are good sources and what are fakes.

These are indeed fakes files put there by the Riaa's agents, and spread by unsuspecting mxpie.info users, there is a patch available that will block these fake results, but i would not recommend it. If you really want to try it try googling winmxgroup patch.

Simplest method of avoiding fakes is recognizing them (as you have) and not waste your time trying to download them. Using open nap is recommended. Cutting out the commonest factors the fakers show will greatly reduce the fake results. In the search bars try -C: to cut out those files shared from the C: Drive and -user to cut those with just User in the file path (instead of a real name like John Doe or EMHdoc).
