US installs missiles into Poland? Are they insane?

The threat represents Moscow's strongest language yet on the controversial plan.

US and Polish officials have stuck firmly by their deal, signed on Thursday, for Poland to host a system the US says is aimed at blocking attacks by rogue nations such as Iran.

Moscow is convinced the base is aimed at Russia's missile force. The deal comes as relations already are strained over the recent fighting between Russia and US-backed Georgia over the separatist Georgian region of South Ossetia.

General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, deputy chief of staff of Russia's armed forces, was quoted as saying: "Poland, by deploying (the system), is exposing itself to a strike - 100%."

He added, in a reference to the agreement, that Russia's military doctrine sanctions the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons, if they in some way help them".

WTF is the US thinking? This is bordering on new Cuba crisis, and talk about bad timing with Russia currently involved in a major international incident what a bad time to install US missiles in Poland....f**k insanity.

US officials defended the missile defence deal, and have said the timing was not meant to antagonise Russian leaders amid the fighting in Georgia.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on a trip to Georgian capital Tblisi, said: "Poland is an independent country. And it's an ally of the United States.

"And it's a democratic country, to whose security the United States is committed.

"Russia should welcome having democracies on its border, not threaten them."

Well, i have long thought crack is being used by top US officials, now i have proof.

Condoleezagood Rice is clearly high as a kite if she thinks the Russians will welcome US missile deployment on their doorstep, they will welcome it about as much as the US welcomed Russian missiles in Cuba.

Just when i thought the US government had gone to the MAX with their stupidity, they go and prove me totally wrong. They are doing a great job of massively increasing world tension.

Got to say I totally disagree with you on this one.

I think missiles in Poland is not enough, I think there should be US troops in Georgia.

I know the European preference is appeasement, but I have to say if NATO and the US do not respond to this in the most extreme matter we will be sending the wrong message to Moscow.

Not to rehash history but I think if the Cubans wanted Soviet missiles in Cuba, it was their, and the Soviet's right to do so. But then again, I have never been a fan of the Kennedy's either.

I was raised in a household that remembered the back door concessions that JFK gave to the Soviets to get them to withdraw. It wasn't the show of force alone that caused the Soviets to turn around.

But back the Georgia, regardless how anyone feels regarding the US "War on Terror" (Damn I hate that term), the Georgians have been a staunch ally of the US. And we have an obligation to help them defend their own sovereignty.

The Georgians had as much right to defend their position in South Ossetia as the Russians do Chechnya. No outside force has interfered with their war against them. The Georgians should be able to expect the same ability to defend itself from destabilizing forces in their borders.

The Russians have shown their intentions, it is time for the US and NATO to negate this act of aggression against an ally. If that means a declaration of War against the Russians then so be it.

Yes.

Appeasement does not work.

If you believe that what has happened is unacceptable, then the time to do something is now.

Just as I advocated the US bombing the N Korean missile while it was on the pad, the same stands true now.

It is not in the US interest, nor IMO Europe's interest to allow the Russians to go unchecked on this situation.

I agree, its dangerous to allow the Russians to go unchecked, but you are a smart man, surely you cant think that a direct military exchange is in the best interests of either the US, or anyone else for that matter?

With what agenda? You think Russia will find that intimidating? Russia are not some small tin pot nation that will shit itself when the Yankie Doodle fleet shows up. The Russians will probably feel US forces moving into a war zone they control makes them fair game as targets, and how will the US forces respond to being shot at by the Russians?

Answer: They will shoot back, then the Russians will shoot some more, then the US, more firepower, bigger guns, more forces, we both now how this ends.............large mushroom clouds over US and Russian cities.
