Gustav looks like it is shaping up to be a bad scenario.

If it does what it could do, I am afraid that any effort to rebuild and protect New Orleans would be finished.

On a better note though, my kids flew here to Austin on Wednesday on tickets bought weeks ago. The airline called yesterday to cancel their return trip (Something already planned but not implemented before because if the airline does it, there is no penalty).

I will enjoy the additional days with them, but I hope the price paid by the region due to Gustav does not overwhelm that individual pleasure.

I wish everyone on the road over the next few days in evac well.

The news reports over here are suggesting a fairly strong chance of a disaster, i hope they are wrong. Lets hope at least some lessons from Katrina have been learned on all levels.

I dont know why peeps live there and this is just another reason to drill for oil in other offshore places.
Its like the entire oil supply is located in a constant target zone.
I went shopping and loaded up on gasoline, an investment in the future. lol

Well according to news sources here, Gustav passed through with little issue in terms of damage and flooding. The news is now reporting further storms coming in though:

Atlantic storm activity is growing as Hurricane Hanna drenched the Bahamas and Tropical Storm Ike sped westwards, with a new tropical depression forming near the Cape Verde Islands off Africa.They are following in the wake of Hurricane Gustav, which began to wane after slamming ashore on the Gulf Coast near New Orleans.The new tropical storms threaten vast areas from South Carolina to the islands of the Caribbean.

They represent worrying news for US oil and natural gas producers in the Gulf of Mexico as well as residents.
