That's just not right. Usually, I try to seed untill I've put back at least 2x what I've taken from the torrent. If everybody seeded, then everybody would only have to upload exactally as much as they download.

I'm using Torrent Ratio Keeper to get my ratio high. It increases uploading traffic and it's easy to keep ratio 1-1.5 it helps seeding. It increases uploading traffic. Just need to leave it working at night with BitTorrent and see results at morning.

On private trackers, if you cheat and get caught you will be banned. And on the better private trackers, cheating is much harder to do and much easier to get caught.

So how does one get and keep up a good ratio? Why do so many find it so hard to do?

Most people approach torrents like a credit card:

They take and then worry about how to pay it back, and eventually get themselves in trouble with their ratio (just like they get themselves into trouble with their credit card balance).

The better way is to approach it like a checking account:

Upload first and then take what you want. (make a deposit before you withdraw)

If you want to download 3 gigs of stuff, upload 3 gigs of stuff first.

Then once you have downloaded what you want, build your ratio up again before going for more. This can be done with a combination of seeding what you downloaded and by uploading new stuff you acquired from elsewhere.

You will never get in trouble with your ratio and will always have one above 1.0, and after some time, you can expect to have a ratio high enough to put you in the "power user" or "VIP" category.

Yup, that's how most of us got there...it wasn't luck or cheating.

2April Lets say you have download speed 256kbit and upload speed 64kbit. How much time you will upload 3gb? I can upload only 500mb a day then I need to seed a week! Another problem is nothing to seed. If you will download some top rated torrent, chance that other users will download from you is a small. So you need to create torrents yourself and you need to make other people to download it. Looks not so good. Only way to get raio high is to donate all the time and spend a lot of money! WHY? Better pay once and forget about donate, vip, etc!

I usually grab a 100 megs or so of a high demand file and seed the shit out of it since often the torrents I grab take forever to seed back fully. But I still try to seed them back.

BUT, these days most of what I get I get off usenet, no seeding no sharing..just taking. Damn, I sound like a politician.

Yeah, I'm trying to seed back too, but old movie or old game you cannot seed fully. For 2 days I just uploaded 15mb! A lot of seeds, this way it's not possible to seed fair.
