A hideous bug in WinMX

WTF is with WinMX dropping queues just after a file completes from someone else?
It may not be a patch thing, but still a real pain in the ass, it's been pissing me off since Clinton was president. Isn't there a way to improve WinMX besides the drama of connect/filter??? LOL
And then theres that thing of selecting multiple files in the DLs area at which time WinMX decides to spaz out and select god knows what at random. Our darling little program does have more issues than who, where and what to get a green light off of. I really think such things like those and browsing peeps with thousands of files == drop the connection are beyond the effects of the * riaa. (and yes I can say *, for certain 'Special' reasons.

what is the sentence u see on the left of yr Ignored button at the top of yr winmx (the Ignored button is the one with the red circle on it?) <<< pls answer this ... it is the 1st step to the troubleshooting process.

Why do I ask that?

I have noticed this syndrome ONLY happening to ppl who use wmw patch. So ur answer shd be (I guess) blank or *patch online* and u r using the wmw patch.

Getting rid of the wmw patch and patching with Vladd's Pie Auto Updater shd solve yr problem. It did for everyone else I helped.

I have to agree there is something serious wrong with winmx . I have tried everything. ANY file that I download and try to play back sounds like it is skipping or bleeping noises.I've noticed this right after the new patch was released. I've tried everything, I've tried different versions of winmx and different versions of the pie patch and still the same problem.I even reformatted my computer because of this problem. I tried everything again and still the same problem. Please help.

Sable, I have solved at least 30 ppl with the same problem with the same solution. Ask Nobby .... I have highlighted this problem (that wmw patch users have when they do not completely remove the wmw patch left inside and from the winmx they r using) to him b4.

If this is the 1st time u r seeing this problem ... and u only solved it yr own way then reserve yr judgement on it.

imabitch does not realize about patch conflict. Using more patches is not necessarily good. When u do not remove the last patch completely, it can mess up and conflict with the current patch. I need to get imabitch to answer my ?s and then when I have eliminated any patch conflict causing her problems we can work on her audio problem.

btw if u read what imabitch wrote, she does not have the same problem as bincoder. If u noticed... she actually reports being able to download with np. She has an audio track skipping problem instead.

i´m not downloading on winmx the last weeks and i´m only in the rooms once a week for an hour, so i don´t really care about it anymore.

Since WinMX has NO playback support for files (yes it only uses external programs to view and play file)

The issue is either the file itself or your computer and since you said you reformatted the cause i would say is the file.

There are some fake files that Anti-p2p companies have been putting out that are just jibberish (ie. static noises, parts skipping, repeating of chorus over and over again)

My best bet is your just downloading fake files. If you want to test this theory out we can setup a WinMX room to meet in and you can download a song from me.

I am aware of the conflicts with the patches. Whenever I would have a problem with a patch I would remove it completely from my computer. After dealing with this for about 2 months I decided to reformat my computer. I lost 1300 files. Some of the files I lost was d/l 2 yrs. ago. It seems like ever since the auto pie patch came out is when I started having problems. I have no problems downloading just playing back the file. Vladd44 suggested to d/l codecs. I did and still skipping. Also my music videos pause while there playing.

I have answered you in another thread, as has Hollow here, patches do not affect the files you download or your playback software. This isnt a patch issue, it is either bad files, something wrong with your playback software or an unknown issue on your pc, but its not a patch issue.

The patch only serves to connect you to the network, if you are connnecting, the patch is working just fine.

As hollow suggests and i have in another thread you need to DL a verified clean mp3 from another user in a chat channel, that way we can rule out the file itself, once thats done, we know the problem lies with your audio software / PC

To be honest from your descriptions it sounds more like a hardware issue, perhaps with your sound card.

Also the drop on browse of peeps with thousands of files thing I mentioned earlier is when I go secondary. This happens on browsing a lesser amount If the incoming results take too much time. Refreshing until I find a very fast (responsive) primary to connect to helps alot, but a change in WinMXs timeout? I guess, to something longer may change that. Unless it just handles one packet stream at a time, so that a long browse perhaps blocks the other packets that are maintaining the connection, searches, etc. (like a single threaded app Vs a multithreaded app)

It's not the dll patch, since I tried that once years ago, and was not impressed by its extremely laggy performance, i've been doing it the hosts way only. WinMX also would have those little bugs before there even was a patch, back when frontcode was still online. So it isn't the patches. Not leftover patches either, I already know what files belong where, how to change from one patch to another, or even create my own (scary) setup, which I wouldn't call a patch.

btw ima, have you tried to play files after a fresh reboot without other stuff running?
I have 1.1 ghz cpu and that will happen to me (skipping or loss of audio sync) on movies. If I have the web going and winmx going, etc. When the pc just has to play the file, it works mmkay. (although 3 ghz would prolly work better) I very rarely find fake files with inserted distortion or whatever, just some that were recorded by ametuers and have hiss or scratches on them. (that too is the minority).

Let me explain to u, bincoder, my theory.

I call this the *dropping queues* syndrome. Basically when u browse anyone ALL ur queues will disconnect and go red all at once.

U see this syndrome was rather unique. And it is so obvious it would be amazing if ppl didn't notice it. And I never saw it happening to me, or any Pie Auto Updater user, or any mxpie patch user (b4 the mxpie 3.6 version came out). I have been in Vladd44 Help Room for over 2 yrs and working there constantly lets me know such stuff.

So when it happened to any user, I would naturally want to know what patch they r using and it is always wmw patch. Without fail.

I also discovered the solution to it by accident... naturally when I see anyone using wmw patch I would ask them to do this to switch them over to Pie Auto Updater : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10284

After doing that, they never experience the *dropping queues* problem again.

There r 2 complications :

1) Some ppl don't know they r using wmw patch.
U see wmw loves to advertise they r patchless (they have a wmw patch inside their 3.54 beta winmx. U download their winmx from their site and u get both winmx and their wmw patch in it.

But KM wised up to my method of detecting his patch and deliberately left that space blank in later versions of his wmw patch ... so making it tough to determine r ppl on wmw patch or patchless.

If ppl tell me their answer to the ? above was *patch online* I know they r on wmw patch. If they say blank and r using winmx 3.54 beta ... I will really ask them to do this : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=10284 cos 70% of these ppl r usually on wmw patch. Esp when I ask them where they downloaded their winmx from. And they say long time back not sure where. Some lie that they downloaded it from Vladd44 site cos ofc since they r in our room they want u not to know they r using other patches. U notice in the log I asked the user pdn where they downloaded their winmx from and he said Vladd44 site and later said it was a long time back... when they say that, I know it is from wmw site). After u work a long time in a help room u wise up to ppl's lies quickly.

U see some have downloaded the winmx from wmw with wmw patch and forgotten all about where they got it from.

2) The other complication is when mxpie patch version 3.6 came out... they claim to connect wmw patch users who r disconnected after KM disconnected his peer caches .... that was why I was angry and told Nobby... cos all the mxpie team did was change the peer caches to theirs and left the winmx the winmx users used still inside their comps, including this wondrous *queue dropping* bug. So after the mxpie version 3.6 came out, even their users of their patch also have this problem tho they did not have it prior to 3.6 version coming out.

i was in a friends queue which were not around or he would have started me, and he went red also...and he is not using the wmw patch also !!

Did I say her problem arises from the patch she uses? No, I said I want to check if she has any patch conflict cos she admits to using a lot of patches... then I said I will help her audio problem after I have confirmed her having no patch conflict.

U said u had this queue dropping problem SOMETIMES. That is not what the winmx users who tell me they have this problem say of their problem ... they had it ALL the time, not JUST sometimes like in yr case. And it didn't get solved until they tried my method.
