Greedy Sony and Bad Apple

Postby CoalDust on Thu Mar 03, 2005 9:21 am

The giant consumer electronics company and Riaa member is on another two faced jihad against file sharers

I suspect the fact that the band allow free trading of there music over the internet helped Sonys decision.

And just to top this off they also want to shoot themselves in the foot ...

Being a Riaa member I think its rather funny that Sony,s Betamax
precedent is the main peice of legislation protecting the US from being turned into a the home of technological luddites.

I happen to know that sony are also supporting their technology arm as members of a trade group, so in effect they are suing themselves

And now for another story ..
Seems the british now have to pay a racial tax for itunes.

"But on February 24, Beatallica received a letter from Sony/ATV Music Publishing demanding that the band take down its Web site and pay Sony "an amount to be discussed.""

Hmmm.. sounds like pissy greed to me Coal. Seems Sony caught wind that a potential to make yet more money came to their attention and they needed quickly shut thew site down and gather the few thousand dollars they may have lost. Don't know about you, but I never heard of this band or their site. So, my guess is likely most people have not. In reality, how many songs could they really have uploaded to those God forsaken non-paying fans?

No offense taken.. then again I am not British. But call a spade nothing but that.. a spade. This is racism indeed. Why does iTunes seem to think that the UK needs to pay more for the same song then other countries? Is it to their understanding that perhaps the Brit's have a larger income then other countries? And even if that is the case, they should not pay more per song. If they paid the same amount, per song, iTunes would likely see that maybe the Brit's are in the lead of downloading and paying for music... with the money they save on each song, they would likely download more.... In other words, if they were each willing to pay 10£ for music, they would be able to get a few extra songs if the price was fair among all.

This sort of thing is common over here, we pay massively more for many products and services, just take a look at the motor trade, or petrol prices, or food, in fact just about everything is expensive here! Pretty much the reason i want to leave!
