I'm glad to see the P2P community rally up to keep our community alive.

Concerning opennap servers, I won't be able to turn mine back on until I move to a new location in the spring. ...I'm currently on my roommates broadband...and I don't have to pay for it. So, for now, I have to live with his rules. I will, however be running one in the spring.

I think it will be interesting to see how the RIAA reacts to what I hope will become a serious rash of opennap servers popping up on the net. While I'm positive that they already have a gameplan for such an occasion, I think that they are going to have a harder time slowing opennap servers.

Lets hope and work for the best.

right before the time that they first started beta testing for winmx 35x, i did a whois on winmx.com and at that time the domain was owned by frontcode and they were located in canada

i just did a whois on winmx.com and the new address it is registered to is in Port Vila, Vanuatu...a small island in the south pacific ... it is no longer registered to Frontcode...the new name it is registered to is WinMX Technologies

i think there 2 things at work here with frontcode:

1. they are moving their operations to the south pacific in order to protect their legal asses

2. they might be getting ready to launch a new winmx that will replace the current one...entire new protocol, which they have said they planned on doing with the next beta

don't panic yet, just hang on to your seats for now and see if we can ride this out

I think they are charging now...

I clicked a link that is something like winmxdotdownloadsdotsomething and they wanted to charge to my credit card for the new winmx site and they promise you some kind of service 100% spyware and adware free. As it used to be a few days ago !!! And for free!!!

They have sites like that because people like you (well, maybe not you, but others) fall for them.. Most likely just another scam.. Keep away from crap like that.
