You can look at your hosts file with a normal text editor such as notepad. In order for a hijacking to occur, you'd have to see an entry like this:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx www.google.com
Which would redirect any attempts to connect to www.google.com to the IP address specified by xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
So no, the hosts file put out by the PIE team is not going to hijack anything except connection attempts to winmx. Technicly the reidrection of winmx to the functioning servers is a hijack, whether it's done by a modified hosts file or by a DLL. If in doubt, feel free to look at your hosts file. :)
As for what server you're being connected to, it will be one of the peer cache servers set up by WinMX users since Frontcode (company that made WinMX) pulled the plug on their servers. For an explanation try here: http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5898

"HTTP Error 500-13 - Server too busy" error message when you connect to a computer that is running IIS 4.0 or IIS 5.0

CAUSE
The server cannot satisfy the request due to the internet traffic or processor utilization that the server is experiencing.

info from: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;248037

It looks ike the problem is with your favorite website's hosting service, not on your computer. In this case there's not much you can do about it except maybe inform them of the error.

Yeah you need the new patch, I downloaded it few weeks ago and now my WINMX is working fine, only problem is dont remember exactly where I found the patch, but I will say this, I think one of the reasons for WINMX shutting down is legal problems, WINMX provides to much porn & Illegal porn, Such as Incest & Pedo, So there may be another problem there, if they clear that out, Which I do not see how that is possible, it may help to Keep WINMX going alot longer, but who knows, Wished I could help out more, If I find site for the patch I will let you know

Sure, they should clear out the porn...and the Gansta Rap music, too. Gansta Rap music glorifies rape, spousal abuse, drugs, violence, robbery, racism and murder. It is no better than porn set to music. Do you see my point? If you deny some people their right to free speech then you have to deny everyone of that right. If people didn't download porn than there would be no sense in people uploading porn. If porn offends you then simply don't download it. P2P is not about censorship...it is about sharing files among peers, and by the way many of the people sharing porn aren't sharing copyrighted files....so, they are the only ones using P2P legally...lol

i used etomi for a while, until i stumbled across what i thought was a funny video that turned out to be child porn. i will never use this sharewware program again. it will be deleted and everything that i ever received from them will be removed, even if it means formating. i suggest to anyone that they not use this program. i understand that kiddy porn is everywhere, but i will be no part in anyhting that has it readily availible, and for your sake, i hope you feel the same way.

Bearded Blunder suggests narket unplugs his modem or removes his internet browser...

Unfortunately this stuff is a fact of online life, & you'll find it not only in near enough every sharing program (including WinMX which has NO capability to filter what people share in ANY way) but on the web as well.

My best advice is, don't look for it, & if you find it, report it through the proper channels wherever possible.
