I don't know if you use the samspade.org website or not, but i was using the software you install on your PC that you can download from their site.

Works better than their site does and you get a bit more info & tools.

It also lessens the load on their servers if you use the software rather than their site.

And since i like the software and the services they provide, i do my part to help them out by not using the tools on the website unless i have to and to use the prog instead.

I was using the ap, not the webpage.

I have used it for years and don't ever recall seeing it report the IP as the canonical or hostname. I have had the reverse look up often fail, but have never seen it list the IP as host. And I am certain that previously the winmx IPs used to reverse to a normal hostname, usually on EV1 I think. The IPs are easily shown to currently be hosted on EV1 i think.

Is this really a good idea?

As a last resort temp substitute *maybe*
but releasing a 'replacement' for winmx, if winmx is still active, would tend to have detrimental effects. It would divide the userbase, and therefore make searching and communicating less effective. And who does that benefit other than RIAA/MPAA?

If winmx does go down, fine.. But if winmx recovers and has some less vulnerable peer cache servers and a new release to point to them, it may not be helpful to continue running a seperate net. Winmx already has more than enough competition for users from BT and eD etc.. variety is good but maybe this should be as a backup.

Of course, i wonder if winmx is still functional. It was sure strange that after such a flurry of new features and debugging, they disappeared again without finalizing v3.54.

How about starting from a neutral area regarding legal problems i.e. outside of the US-UK capitalism cartel ? Like WinMX might be considering to do now according to the above data ?

It seems to me as all the problems regarding a mentality and actions against human privacy, decency and common sense come from the US, and countries like the UK just naturally follows as per the usual owner-pet relationship.

Do I sound racist or something like that ? I'm just stating facts, mind you. Am I alone in thinking this planet would be just fine without the US, its government, its mentality and its laws ?

I can dig that reasoning.

When I think of it, all the gripes I've ever had regarding social and legal problems come from US society and US legal system. However, I don't even live in the US ! Something IS very wrong with that.

Just as we speak I'm suffering with the P2P issue because of US laws and US companies, and since I'm not in the US and not under US laws why the f**k should I ? Sad.

No your not alone :) ....and most brits think the same way, but I cant speak of other countries on that matter, although I think its pretty obvious what they think as well.

That’s been around for ages.

How funny that people are now paying for a product that they don’t need to, that isn’t working properly anyway lol

if winmx comes back, then you just shut down the sabmx cache and cause everyone to go running for the new winmx...or put a notice at the top like winmx did when there was anew version out...only make it say "get your ass back on winmx, dude! this peer cache is going down in 7 days"

Well we could all do with NOT panicing, various things are so far unclear, sit tight and lets see:

1. What FC are actually up too, this is unclear so far
2. What others are putting together to assist
3. Other long term solutions as they present themselves

Lets just remain calm ppl, tis not over till the fat trannie Vladd sings, lol

OK OK
Lets Get Something Clear Here Are We All Saying WinMX Is Dead And Buried??
Personaly I Dont Belive This Will Happen (even though i cant prove it)
Surley Frontcode Is To Big To Just Dissapear Into The Willderness?? (I HOPE)
Can Someone Shed Any Light On Where We All Stand (if any at all?)
And What Are Our Options Should WinMX Dissapear For Good??? :?:
